Registered in Thailand, the new generation of the Toyota Hilux will bring a hybrid engine with up to 326 hp, an electric range of 200 km, and an unprecedented hydrogen-powered version, marking a decade of innovations.

The Toyota Hilux is a name that needs no introduction, but its eighth generation has been on the market for 10 years, and many fans and enthusiasts are eager for updates. This year, it seems that the wait may finally be over, with the debut of the new generation of the pickup, promising hybrid, electric, and even hydrogen-powered versions.

But why is this update so eagerly awaited? Let’s explore the details that make the new generation of the Toyota Hilux a milestone in the automotive market.

An Expected Milestone: The Registration of the New Toyota Hilux

The anticipation increased in December 2024, when Toyota registered a new version of the pickup in Thailand, named Hilux Travo. Following the tradition of presenting its biggest news in the country, as was the case with the “Hilux Revo”, the manufacturer seems to be laying the groundwork for the arrival of a model that promises to be revolutionary.

The new nomenclature points to significant changes, but without abandoning the robust and reliable essence that has won over millions of drivers. Speculations suggest that Travo may be the name of the new generation, bringing a renewed mechanical and visual package.

Thailand plays a crucial role in the history of the Hilux. It was there that the latest generations of the pickup began, and the recent registration reinforces that the country remains a strategic point for Toyota’s global launches.

The 10-Year Journey of the Eighth Generation

Since its debut in 2015, the eighth generation has undergone mechanical and visual updates to stay competitive. However, even with great sales numbers, especially in Brazil, it became clear that it was time for a deeper transformation.

The Hilux has remained relevant over the years with technological and mechanical upgrades, but the competition has not rested. Models like the Ford Ranger, which recently received a new generation, have pressured Toyota to accelerate its plans.

Although still one of the market leaders, the Hilux needs to respond to technological advancements and the appeal for sustainability that has been guiding the automotive industry.

Technologies and Innovations in the New Generation

In Australia, the Toyota Hilux already received a mid-life update in 2024. The new generation is expected to follow this style, with small design adjustments and technology improvements.

The new generation of the Toyota Hilux is not just about design. The biggest expectations are on the embedded technologies and new types of propulsion.

Rumors indicate that the hybrid version may be equipped with the same set as the Land Cruiser Prado: a 2.4-liter gasoline turbo engine combined with a 36 kW electric motor, generating 326 hp and a torque of 64.2 kgfm. There are speculations about an electric range of up to 200 km if it adopts technologies from partner BYD.

Toyota has already presented an electric prototype of the Hilux, and executives have confirmed that the electric version will be launched in 2025. At the same time, the brand is exploring hydrogen technology, with tests in the UK showing the ambition to diversify sustainable options for the future.

The Design and Visual Expectations

Visually, Toyota tends to be conservative, but updates are always carefully calculated to please the brand’s loyal consumers.

Initial projections suggest that the model will follow the line of the mid-life update launched in Australia in 2024. This means adjustments to the front design and aerodynamic improvements, maintaining the robust DNA of the Hilux.

Another highlight will be the internal technology. A 10-year project naturally accumulates obsolescence, and the new generation promises to integrate advanced assistance systems, cutting-edge connectivity, and greater comfort.

The new generation of the Toyota Hilux is a step forward into the future of pickups. With hybrid, electric, and even hydrogen-powered versions, Toyota reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability. It remains for fans to await the official details and dream of what is to come. After all, who wouldn’t want to drive a Hilux that unites tradition and cutting-edge technology?
