The Price of Hydrated Ethanol Fell in the Federal District and in 13 States in the First Half of January, Countering the Rise in Prices Experienced by Nine States in the Same Period.

In the Northern region, without data collection until the 7th, and without data collection from January 9 to 14, Acre and Amapá are not part of the mapping carried out by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), and the data compilation was carried out by AE-Taxas. The price of this fuel influences the price of gasoline, which contains 27% ethanol in its composition.

Highlighting the states of Rio Grande do Sul and Ceará, where there were no price changes. In the former, the prices per liter are around R$ 4.76, and in the latter, around R$ 4.57. The main state in production and consumption, with the most distribution points, São Paulo, from January 9 to 14, saw the price drop from R$ 3.94 per liter to R$ 3.85, a percentage decrease of 2.28%. The federal unit that registered the largest percentage drop was Goiás, 5.05%, where in the first week of the year, the price per liter was R$ 3.96, and in the second, it was R$ 3.76. Sergipe recorded the highest prices, where the price that was R$ 3.95 in the first week increased to R$ 4.12 the previous week.

During the period, São Paulo had the lowest price for hydrated ethanol at R$ 3.28 per liter. The highest value was found in Rio Grande do Sul at R$ 6.37. Mato Grosso had the lowest average state price at R$ 3.61, while Roraima had the highest at R$ 4.87 per liter.

Comparing month to month, the fuel price increased by more than 2.5%. Percentage comparisons by state show that the largest drop in ethanol prices occurred in Mato Grosso, with a reduction of 2.43%, while the federal unit where the fuel became more expensive percentage-wise was also Sergipe, with an increase of 14.44%.

Ethanol vs. Gasoline

Regarding the most used fuel in the country, gasoline, the price of ethanol influences, but does not pose a threat in any of the 27 federal units, this is also confirmed by the survey conducted by the ANP.

The parity calculated stands at 78.17% for gasoline, during the survey period from January 2 to 14, 2023. This is a level considered unfavorable in a scenario comparing both fuels. According to experts, depending on the vehicle in which the biofuel is injected, ethanol only becomes competitive compared to gasoline if the fuel parity is higher than 70%.
