Families with Babies Up to 7 Months Will Receive Additional Amount; Initiative Expands Focus on Early Childhood
The federal government confirmed the creation of a new government benefit within the Bolsa Família program, set to begin in September 2025. The measure includes a payment of R$ 50 per month for each baby up to seven months old, in an attempt to strengthen care for early childhood and increase support for families in vulnerable situations.
Called Nourishing Variable Benefit (BVN), the new aid complements existing payments, such as those for children up to 6 years old, pregnant women, and adolescents. This way, the program gains a new component, reinforcing the preventive and social protection role that Bolsa Família has played throughout the country.
How Does the New Government Benefit Work?
The Nourishing Variable Benefit will be paid monthly at R$ 50 per baby up to seven months old. According to the Market Monitor, the inclusion of this age group aims to ensure adequate nutrition and support during breastfeeding, a critical phase of child development. The new installment is cumulative with other aids, such as:
-
The largest food company on the planet, JBS, has just opened a 4,000 square meter laboratory in Florianópolis to develop customized proteins that modulate muscle mass gain, immune response, and metabolic performance.
-
After nearly 30 bids and competition among industry giants, a Spanish company purchases one of the largest airports in Brazil for almost R$ 3 billion and takes over the management of Galeão in a concession that will last until 2039.
-
The Federal Revenue Service now automatically cross-references everything you declare with data from banks, credit cards, brokerage firms, and insurance companies, and any discrepancy between your income and your expenses triggers an alert in seconds.
-
Amid global tensions, Brazil blocks the United States’ proposal at the WTO and paves the way for a trade crisis and possible retaliations.
- Citizenship Income (R$ 142 per family member)
- Complementary Benefit (ensures a minimum of R$ 600 per family)
- Early Childhood Benefit (R$ 150 for children up to 6 years old)
- Family Variable Benefit (R$ 50 for pregnant women and youth aged 7 to 17)
This multifaceted design of Bolsa Família aims to tailor the amounts to each family’s profile, making the program more efficient and fair. The new aid will start being deposited from the September payment round.
Who Is Eligible and How to Receive the Amount?
To access the new government benefit, the child must be properly registered in the Single Register (CadÚnico) and the family must already be a beneficiary of Bolsa Família. In addition, it is necessary that:
- The child is up to 7 complete months old
- The family meets health and education conditionalities, such as vaccination, prenatal care, and school attendance of other children
The payment will be made to the digital account of Caixa Tem, current/savings account with Caixa, or can be withdrawn with Social Card at lottery outlets and agencies.

Why Does the New Benefit Focus on Babies?
Studies show that the first thousand days of life are crucial for the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of children. By creating a specific benefit for nurses and babies, the government aims to act preventively, combating malnutrition and promoting better health conditions in the early months of life.
This strategy also reinforces the importance of breastfeeding, reduces infant mortality, and contributes to the breaking of the intergenerational poverty cycle.
What Are the Mandatory Care Requirements to Maintain Bolsa Família?
In addition to being registered, families must follow rules related to education and health, such as:
- Maintain regular school attendance of children and adolescents
- Ensure up-to-date vaccinations
- Conduct prenatal care for pregnant women
- Keep the registration updated in CadÚnico
Failure to comply with these conditionalities may block or suspend the benefit, reinforcing the need for constant monitoring by beneficiaries.
What Is the Social Impact of the Measure?
The new benefit represents more than just an additional amount in the family budget. It symbolizes a step forward in the policy of protecting early childhood, as well as stimulating the local economy. The amounts transferred by Bolsa Família are primarily used for food, medicine, and basic items, strengthening neighborhood trade and small towns.
The program, by redistributing income in a targeted manner, helps reduce regional inequalities and serves as a foundation for future social inclusion and income generation policies.
