To Expand The Capacity To Respond To Disasters And Spills, The Port Of Paranaguá Inaugurated A Modern Emergency Center, With An Investment Of R$ 27 Million.
The Port of Paranaguá, one of the main port complexes in Brazil, received R$ 27 million in investments to strengthen its safety and emergency response infrastructure. The ceremony took place last Friday (11), held at the pier with the presence of authorities and representatives from the port community.
CPRE Elevates Safety Standards And Positions The Port Of Paranaguá As A National Reference
The initiative modernized the former Environmental Protection Center, which is now called the Emergency Readiness and Response Center (CPRE), focusing on enhancing operations in cases of fires, chemical spills, fuel accidents, and animal rescues.
The new structure was presented as a milestone for the Paraná port system. With over 1,100 m², the CPRE now features state-of-the-art equipment, a trained team available 24 hours a day, and a set of protocols that allow for a quick and effective response to critical situations.

The German ship Bottsand splits its hull in two halves in the middle of the ocean to swallow spilled oil on the surface, separating the oil from the water inside a 790 cubic meter tank and then closing again. It is the only ship in the world factory-designed to split in half as part of normal operations, and the crew of six people who operate everything is civilian.

With almost 70 meters in width at the stern and a shape resembling a “giant slice of cheese,” the Ramform Titan tows up to 24 seismic cables to sweep the ocean floor in 3D and reveal oil reserves hidden beneath kilometers of sediment.

With a length of 225 meters and a capacity of 76 thousand tons, this ship “sinks” its own deck down to 28 meters deep to accommodate war destroyers, oil platforms, and giant radars floating above, and then emerges with everything intact on top like a colossal tray crossing oceans.
The modernization aims to protect not only the port but also the environment and the surrounding population against possible emergencies.
The transformation of the former environmental center into a modern operational base further strengthens the strategic role of the Port of Paranaguá.
The new structure is ready to respond to complex emergencies, such as oil spills, chemical products, and fires, as well as having a sector focused on rescuing animals contaminated by toxic agents.

“We are ready to respond with the best technique. We have a team available 24 hours, receiving ongoing training for emergency response,” stated Luiz Fernando Garcia, president of Portos do Paraná.
According to him, the investments position the state ports as examples of efficiency and safety. “We have intensified investments and are now addressing new and potential occurrences that we do not wish to happen, but we are already prepared for it,” added the state secretary for Infrastructure and Logistics, Sandro Alex.
New Equipment Makes Responses Faster And More Specialized
Among the advancements brought by the investments in the CPRE is the acquisition of a modern Water Tank Fire Truck (ABT), with the capacity to store 11,600 liters of water and 400 liters of chemical foam, along with a monitor nozzle that can discharge up to 3,785 liters per minute — including the possibility of using seawater.
This vehicle is similar to those used by military corporations and will be operated by a team trained full-time.
“Portos do Paraná has designated a company that is on standby 24 hours a day. Should there be a need for significant support, the Fire Department will be mobilized,” explained Lieutenant Colonel Fabrício Frazatto dos Santos, who also highlighted the role of firefighters in larger incidents.
Moreover, the center is equipped with special protective clothing for operations in chemical product spills, containment and absorption barriers, oil skimmers, mobile tanks, vessels, and even ATVs for interventions in hard-to-access areas, such as sandy stretches.
Civil Defense And Wildlife Protection Also Gain Space
The new Emergency Readiness and Response Center at the Port of Paranaguá also houses the headquarters of the 6th Regional Action Nucleus (NAR) of Civil Defense.
This branch of the State Coordination provides direct support to coastal municipalities, guiding on preventive actions and recovery in cases of natural disasters or accidents.

The structure also includes an exclusive space for wildlife de-oiling, which conducts the rescue and rehabilitation of animals contaminated by oil or other substances.
The location is equipped with an outpatient clinic, a decontamination room, a rehabilitation area, a kitchen, and a laundry — all designed to provide complete and prompt treatment.
Port Of Paranaguá Consolidates As The Most Sustainable In The Country
The state secretary for Sustainable Development, Rafael Greca, emphasized the symbolism and environmental importance of the port’s modernization: “Since 1935, the Port of Paranaguá has been our pride. But more than our pride, it is now the most sustainable port in Brazil; it is the glory of the great name of Paraná.”
The investment of R$ 27 million reinforces the state government’s proposal to transform the Port of Paranaguá into a model of sustainability, safety, and logistical innovation.
With the expansion of emergency response capacity, the terminal advances not only in competitiveness but also in social and environmental responsibility.
With over 85 years of history, the Port of Paranaguá has been consolidating its position as one of the most efficient ports in Latin America.
The new investments in the CPRE mark another stage in the modernization of the terminal, strengthening the confidence of logistics operators, exporters, and the community itself.
The expectation is that the new structure will increase the capacity for risk prevention and mitigation, benefiting not only the port but the entire logistics chain of the state of Paraná.
This transformation reaffirms the commitment to operational excellence, environmental safety, and the well-being of the population.
