Project Transforms Historic Military Base into Production Center with Artificial Intelligence and New Opportunities for University Students
An old U.S. military base, known for its historical significance since the early 20th century, is about to gain a new function. Located in the city of Anniston, Alabama, the Fort McClellan facility, which opened its doors in 1917, may be transformed into a modern audiovisual production center based on artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and virtual production technologies. The initiative is being led by Emmy Award-winning comedian and actor Katt Williams, who decided to invest in the site and develop an innovative project in partnership with Miles College.
In recent months, rumors have circulated about the possible purchase of the old military base by the artist. Initially, many local residents did not believe the site could gain national relevance again. However, as more details began to emerge, it became clear that Fort McClellan could once again come on the radar, now no longer as a military installation, but as a new hub for technology, cinema, and creative innovation.
According to Williams, the state of Alabama presents strategic characteristics for the development of a film and audiovisual production center. Moreover, the project aims to utilize emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) to keep creative and technical activities within the United States, avoiding the outsourcing of costly services to other countries.

Google will finally let you change that embarrassing Gmail address you created in your teenage years without losing any accounts, logins, or old emails: the feature is already available in the United States.
The information was disclosed by the channel WVTM 13, which conducted an exclusive interview with the comedian and actor. In the report, journalist Aaron Llewellyn spoke with Williams about the project and how the initiative may impact university students and the local economy.
Partnership with Miles College Aims to Prepare Students for Future Professions
One of the central pillars of the project involves creating educational opportunities for students at Miles College, an institution historically linked to the education of the African American community and classified as a HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities).
During the Miles College homecoming in October, comedian Katt Williams and the college president, Bobby Knight, officially announced a strategic partnership between the college and the studio that will be established at the old military base.
According to the agreement made between the institutions, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Miles College students will have direct access to learning programs related to artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and modern audiovisual production.
Additionally, the project anticipates exclusive internship programs for students of the institution, allowing them to participate in real filmmaking and technology activities even before they graduate.
The initiative arises at a time of rapid transformations in the job market. According to the project’s leaders, many professions currently in existence may cease to exist in the next five years due to advancements in artificial intelligence and digital automation. Therefore, the idea is to prepare students for a completely new professional landscape.
According to Bobby Knight, president of Miles College, the goal is to ensure that students are ready to work in a world where digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and virtual production will become increasingly common.

Kemet Movie Works Studio Aims to Use AI to Revolutionize Independent Productions and Major Films
The studio planned to operate in Fort McClellan will be run by the company Kemet Movie Works, which aims to position the space at the forefront of audiovisual production technologies.
The site’s structure already offers suitable conditions for ambitious projects. The old military base has two fully equipped and state-of-the-art sound studios, ready to accommodate systems for virtual production, immersive environments, and computer-generated imagery (CGI).
With these facilities, the expectation is that both independent films and major studio productions will be able to utilize the infrastructure to develop innovative projects, especially those that rely on advanced visual effects technologies.
Historically, many companies in the film industry have had to send work for animation, visual effects, and post-production to other countries, paying millions of dollars to foreign companies. However, with the advancement of artificial intelligence and digital tools, Williams believes it will be possible to keep a significant portion of this work within the country.
The idea was also inspired by a cultural phenomenon known as the Chitlin Circuit, a network of cultural venues in the southern United States that helped launch the careers of legendary artists such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and B.B. King. Just as in that period, the current goal is to create an environment where new talents can develop and achieve national prominence.

Economic Revitalization May Create Jobs and New Opportunities for the City of Anniston
Although there is currently no official estimate of how many jobs will be created with the arrival of the studio, residents of Anniston are showing enthusiasm for the project.
For many residents, the revitalization of the old military base may represent a new economic chapter for the city. One frequently cited example is the impact caused by filmmaker Tyler Perry’s studios in Atlanta, which transformed the city into an important center of the American film industry.
Local residents believe that Fort McClellan could follow a similar path. The possibility of attracting audiovisual productions, creative professionals, technology companies, and university students creates positive expectations for the region’s economic development.
Furthermore, the project aims to broaden diversity within the entertainment industry. Williams asserts that the initiative seeks to ensure that people from different backgrounds have access to opportunities that have long been concentrated only in Hollywood.
If the plan is successful, Fort McClellan could permanently leave behind its exclusively military past and transform into a center for technological innovation, education, and filmmaking, connecting history, technology, and new generations of creative professionals.
What do you think? Do projects like this—combining technology, cinema, and university education—actually have the potential to open new professional opportunities for young talents outside major centers like Hollywood?
Let us know in the comments: what weighs more in this kind of initiative—investment in technology, partnership with universities, or creation of local jobs?
