Flare Works at Comperj, Essential for the Operation of the UPGN That Is Being Implemented by the Kerui Method Consortium, Were Completed by MIP Engenharia This Week
The Comperj works that were not halted, such as the installation of the security system for the burning of residual gas from UPGN activities (Natural Gas Processing Unit) are progressing well.
This week it was MIP Engenharia’s turn to complete the Flare tower works. The entire structure is 156 meters tall, weighs 424 tons, and is essential for the proper functioning of the UPGN.
The Flare system also consists of a 35-meter long liquid/vapor separation vessel, which was built by EBSE and transported this week to the installation site at Comperj.

On the occasion, EBSE President Marcelo Bonilha stated: “This project presented us with a great challenge to reconcile manufacturing and logistics. Therefore, we rented a factory in Itaboraí (RJ), close to Comperj, which allowed the transportation of the equipment to the refinery.”
Continuation of Works in Itaboraí
While Petrobras does not complete the technical feasibility study for the continuation of the refinery project at Comperj, the UPGN works continue to be carried out by the Chinese Kerui in a consortium with Metodo Engenharia.
The UPGN at Comperj will be the largest in the country, with processing capacity of up to 21 million m³ per day.
After the study, Petrobras is expected to respond to the Chinese CNPC regarding the continuation of the Trem 1 Refinery works, as disclosed in its Business and Management Plan for the period from 2019 to 2023.
