Petrobras Contest: Edital Forecast, Vacancies, and Updated Schedule. Learn How to Prepare in Advance to Compete for Thousands of Opportunities at Brazil’s Largest State-Owned Company.

The Petrobras 2025 contest has already caught the attention of thousands of candidates across Brazil. The largest state-owned company in the country is going through a moment of expansion, with billion-dollar projects underway, mass retirements, and an urgent need to replenish technical and engineering staff. It’s no surprise that discussions behind the scenes indicate that a new edital could be released at any moment, reigniting the competition for a position at one of the most sought-after companies in the country.

The last higher education contest took place in 2021, focusing on engineers, and its validity expired in May 2024. For the technical level, the last selection occurred in 2023, organized by Cebraspe, but the rapid pace of convocations quickly depleted the reserve list. With the opening of new work fronts — such as exploration in the Equatorial Margin, which is expected to receive over US$ 40 billion in investments, and refining and logistics projects — the scenario suggests the publication of a new edital in 2025.

Why Petrobras Should Launch a New Contest in 2025

Unlike other federal agencies, Petrobras is a mixed-economy enterprise and therefore has the autonomy to hold its contests without depending on federal government authorization. This means that, if the state-owned company deems it necessary, it can open vacancies at any time.

Several factors reinforce the need for a new edital:

  • Mass Retirements: every year, thousands of professionals leave the company, creating gaps that need to be filled.
  • Expansion of Strategic Projects: exploration in the Equatorial Margin, investments in refining, and strengthening Transpetro increase the demand for skilled labor.
  • Exhaustion of the Reserve List: practically all candidates approved in previous contests have already been called.
  • International Competitiveness: to maintain the pace of production and innovation, the state-owned company needs new talent in engineering, geology, technology, and maintenance.

In practice, this means that a new Petrobras 2025 edital is not just speculation: it is an operational necessity of the country’s largest state-owned company.

Forecast of Vacancies and Areas Covered

Although the exact number of vacancies has not yet been disclosed, experts believe that the next contest will include both technical high school and higher education.

Among the areas with the highest probability of opening vacancies are:

  • Technical Level: Operations, Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Occupational Safety, Electrotechnics, Electromechanics, Welding, and related industrial areas.
  • Higher Education: all engineering fields (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Production, Environmental, among others), as well as Geology, Administration, and strategic areas related to operations and refining.

It is worth noting that candidates in their final year of graduation may also apply, provided they present their diploma upon appointment, broadening the range of participants.

Exam Structure: What to Expect from the Next Edital

The expectation is that the new contest will follow the same pattern as previous exams, with minor updates.

  • Technical Level:
    • 10 questions in Portuguese
    • 10 questions in Mathematics
    • 40 questions on Specific Knowledge
    • A total of 60 objective questions, with greater weight on technical knowledge.
  • Higher Education:
    • 10 questions in Portuguese
    • 10 questions in English
    • 50 questions on Specific Knowledge
    • Also with decisive weight for the area of expertise.

In both cases, general subjects are eliminatory, while specific knowledge determines classification.

A critical point: in Petrobras contests, the exam board tends to prioritize long questions, with dense interpretation and complex calculations, especially in Mathematics, Portuguese, and English. This means that candidates who wait until after the edital is released to study will have a significant disadvantage.

Scheduled Timeline: When Will the Edital and the Exam Be Released

History shows that Petrobras usually provides an average of 60 to 90 days between the publication of the edital and the holding of the exams. This was the case in 2021 (60 days), in 2023 (89 days), and also in Transpetro contests.

This interval is considered short in the contest universe. Therefore, those who wait for the edital to be released to start studying will likely be at a disadvantage. Experts agree: preparation must start now.

Strategies to Study Before the Edital with Preparatory Course for Petrobras

Many candidates make the mistake of waiting for the edital to start studying. This decision can be costly. As the time until the exam is short, the recommendation is to simulate that the edital has already been published.

  • Review Previous Editais: use the exams from 2021 and 2023 as a guide.
  • Set a Realistic Schedule: reserve at least two hours a day, alternating between Portuguese, Mathematics/English, and specific knowledge.
  • Prioritize Technical Knowledge: these are what counts for classification points.
  • Practice with Board Questions: solving previous exams is the best way to familiarize yourself with the testing style.
  • Take Periodic Simulations: time management is crucial, as Petrobras exams require pace and endurance.

Who Can Participate: Basic Requirements

  • Higher Education: diploma in engineering, geology, administration, or other related fields. Students in their final year of graduation may also apply.
  • Technical Level: complete high school with a technical course in areas required in the edital. Old diplomas remain valid.

It is worth remembering that technical courses can even be taken in EAD format, lasting 6 to 12 months, allowing new candidates to still enter the competition.

The Importance of Early Preparation

The biggest mistake candidates make is to wait for the edital. When it is published, there are only two or three months left until the exam. During this time, most try to study everything in a rushed manner, panic sets in, and they end up giving up. Those who start earlier gain a competitive advantage, review calmly, and master key points.

Stories of approved candidates show that you do not need to be a genius; you just need discipline, strategy, and focus. The Petrobras contest isn’t a lottery, it’s a game of preparation.

With project expansion, replacement of retirees, and replenishment of technical staff, there are projections that the next edital will open thousands of direct vacancies and a robust reserve list. This signifies a real opportunity for entry, especially for those who anticipate and position themselves from now on.

The Next Step for Those Who Really Want to Secure a Position

If you’ve made it this far, you already understand that the Petrobras contest is not just a possibility: it’s a concrete opportunity that can transform your professional and financial life. But you also realize that those who wait for the edital will be racing against the clock, while others will already be prepared.

This was exactly the perception that transformed the trajectory of Willian Rabelo, engineer approved and mentor to thousands of students who today hold positions within Petrobras and Transpetro. He started from scratch, just like you, and built a strategic method that has already helped hundreds of candidates secure their spots.

The good news is that this same method is available to you in the Preparatory Course for Petrobras, a preparation program that includes previous editais, commented exams, study schedules, simulations, and practical mentorships. It’s not a miraculous promise, but a proven strategy.

If Petrobras released the edital tomorrow, would you be ready? Or would you be among those who start desperately, trying to study in two months what they should have started months ago? The choice is yours.
