Renault Kwid Electric Is Considered the Most Economical Electric Car in Brazil Delivering Consumption Equivalent to Over 50 km/l, Greater Than Some Gasoline Cars.
Did you know that the most economical electric car is from Brazil? Until recently, before the popularization of electric cars, various technologies were incorporated into vehicles, such as the Turbo, flex, and three-cylinder engines, aiming to reduce fuel consumption. It is worth noting that the method of measuring the consumption of electric cars is different from those powered by internal combustion engines. The evaluated vehicles, however, undergo track tests and consumption measurements in the laboratory, following the standards of ABNT NBR 7024.

However, according to Inmetro, it is necessary to compare the results of vehicles using different fuels (ethanol, gasoline, and diesel). Thus, the data is converted to Joules. This unit, in this way, measures the amount of energy required for a given displacement.
Furthermore, the calculation considers how much the most economical electric car in Brazil consumes in kW/100 km compared to a similar combustion model. According to the calculations made by the agency, the results are very close to the real condition. Thus, the title of the 2023 table goes to the Renault Kwid electric, with data indicating its consumption at 52.7 km/l.
Meet the Renault Kwid Electric, the Most Economical Electric Car in Brazil
The Renault Kwid Electric 2024 is one of the most affordable electric cars in the country, arriving with technology and convenience among its highlights. The most economical electric car in Brazil features an electric motor with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 26.8 kWh.
The engine generates 65 horsepower and 11.5 kgfm of maximum torque. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 14.6 seconds, and the maximum speed is 130 km/h. In addition, the Renault electric hatchback comes equipped with a single-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
The electric car has an autonomy of up to 185 km, according to INMETRO. The charging time of the model varies between 40 minutes with Fast Charging (DC) 30 kW, 2h54 minutes with Wallbox (AC), and 8h57 minutes with a portable charger (220V 10A).
The interior of the Renault Kwid Electric features an instrument panel with LED displays, air conditioning, seats with premium upholstery, an onboard computer, center console, instrument panel with LED displays, and a 7-inch multimedia system with wireless smartphone mirroring for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Other Economical Electric Cars
Just behind the Renault Kwid Electric in the ranking of the most economical electric cars in Brazil is the Hyundai Kona EV, whose consumption in the city is 52.5 km/l and on the highway is 40.6 km/l. Available in hybrid and electric versions, the Hyundai Kona EV costs R$ 189,990 when powered by batteries. The model is equipped with a front electric motor delivering 136 horsepower and 40.3 kgfm of torque.
In third place is the Dolphin, from the newly arrived BYD, which achieves a consumption of 51.9 km/l. The entry-level model arrived in June for R$ 149,800, featuring an electric motor with 95 horsepower and 18.3 kgfm of torque.
