US Aircraft Carrier With Billion-Dollar Total Cost Is The Most Advanced And Technological In The Navy. The Vessel Was Sent To Israel As A Demonstration Of Military Support.

In 2021, the US inaugurated another major weapon for the country’s military power. With the presence of Donald Trump, former president of the country, the nation with the most powerful navy in the world held a grand ceremony at the time to welcome the US aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R Ford.

The new US aircraft carrier began construction in 2009 and had a total cost of US$ 12.9 billion, incorporating various new technologies in the vessel called USS Gerald R Ford. It is worth noting that this is the 11th American aircraft carrier and the first of the new class of the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier fleet, with a total weight of 100 thousand tons.

The ceremony, at the time, was held at the Norfolk Shipyard in Virginia, and featured the participation of former President Donald Trump, who took the opportunity to land on the aircraft carrier aboard “Marine One”. The most famous class is the Nimitz, which includes the largest and most powerful aircraft carriers in the world, including the famous USS George Bush CVN 77.

The US aircraft carrier belongs to a new class and is even more powerful than those of the Nimitz class, boasting more technology. Some differentiating factors exist, including a system that launches aircraft using magnetic catapults instead of steam like the other aircraft carriers.

A space study allowed the US Navy to increase the number of take-offs from the US aircraft carrier by 33%, incorporating a style similar to NASCAR on the deck. According to Captain John F. Meier, commander of the Gerald R. Ford, when the aircraft lands, they will be able to park, refuel, and rearm, all in a kind of pit-stop model. This way, maximum utilization of the aircraft can be ensured in a real combat situation.

US Aircraft Carrier Uses Nuclear Reactors

Another interesting technology of this ship is the radar, which takes up less space and has greater range than current models, reducing the weight of the equipment and the overall area of the tower. The new radars operate on a dual-frequency scheme, allowing aircraft and missiles to be identified simultaneously, avoiding the traditional response lag of older radars.

Another factor that changes in the CVN-78 is the two nuclear reactors, which are smaller yet produce more power than those of the Nimitz class. The US aircraft carrier can also launch UAVs such as the X47.

The launch by magnetic effect was only made possible with the new reactor, which generates more energy and can power the system’s electromagnets. These and other characteristics make the CVN 78 the most powerful aircraft carrier on the planet currently, as well as the most expensive vessel in history. Contrary to what many people believe, the development of the Ford class was filled with excess time and money, however, this is expected for a first-class vessel.

US Aircraft Carrier Was Sent To Israel

The US recently sent the USS Gerald R. Ford to the Eastern Mediterranean as a demonstration of military support for the Israeli government and as a show of force against the Hamas group, following the recent attacks by the Palestinian terrorist group.

The vessel, which is the newest and most advanced of its kind in the US Navy, is 333 meters long and 77 meters wide. The US aircraft carrier carries about 4,500 sailors, in addition to 90 aircraft and helicopters, and moves at just over 30 knots, equivalent to about 55 km per hour.
