According to the government of Bahia, the management and administration of the bridge will last 30 years and will be the second largest in Latin America, with 12.4 km. The construction of the project will shorten the travel time by about 100 km.

Formed by the companies China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corporation – CR20; CCCC South America Regional Company S.Á.R.L – CCCC SOUTH AMERICA, and China Communications Construction Company Limited – CCCCLTD, the Salvador Bridge consortium will have one year to develop the project and another four years to construct the equipment.
The investment will be R$ 5.4 billion, and the State contribution will be R$ 1.5 billion. The expectation is that seven thousand jobs will be generated in Bahia during the construction of the bridge.

The bid from the consortium was R$ 56.2 million. The bidding committee, made up of representatives from the Infrastructure (Seinfra), Urban Development (Sedur), and Civil House secretariats received the material, which was analyzed, and the guarantees of the proposals and the qualification documents were evaluated.
The bidding was attended by Governor Rui Costa, Deputy Governor João Leão, and the Infrastructure Secretary Marcus Cavalcanti and the Civil House Secretary Bruno Dauster.
Nowadays, the crossing to Itaparica is done via ferry boat, at the Terminal de São Joaquim in Salvador and by fast boats. Another option is to use the BR-324 and head towards the Recôncavo Baiano.
