Thermal Power Plant in Rio Grande do Sul Is Key to Attracting GWM
“We are very happy with the issuance of the operating license for our first project. Due to the pandemic, construction was suspended when we had over 5,000 workers, and we managed to resume with a lot of responsibility, safety, and without accidents,” said GNA’s Regulation Director, Guilherme Penteado, in a statement.
GNA I Thermal Power Plant at Açu Port Authorized by the RJ Government
The license granted by the state government stipulates that the power plant’s operations will be conducted using desalinated seawater to reduce environmental impact. GNA is also authorized to, in the future, double the installed capacity of the thermal park.
The GNA I UTE will consist of 3 gas turbines and 1 steam turbine that will together be responsible for generating 1.3 GW in combined cycle, which contributes to increased efficiency in energy generation.
The energy generated by the GNA I UTE will be connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) through a 345 kV Transmission Line approximately 52 km long, at the Campos dos Goytacazes substation.
BNDES Approves 3.93 Billion for Construction and Implementation of the Thermal Power Plant at Açu Port
The National Bank for Economic and Social Development – BNDES approved the financing requested by GNA (Gás Natural Açu), designated for the GNA II UTE and for the implementation of the thermal power plant at Açu Port. The financing granted to the joint venture formed by Prumo Logística, BP, and Siemens will be for the construction of the largest natural gas thermal park in Latin America, at the Açu Complex.
The thermal power plant will have four generators, three powered by natural gas and one by steam. The total installed capacity will be 1,673 megawatts, enough to supply 7.8 million homes.
GNA’s CEO, Bernardo Perseke, states that “Today is a very important day for GNA. The approval of financing from BNDES enables the realization of a very significant investment in Brazil and in the State of Rio, a signal of confidence for the economic recovery post-pandemic. Moreover, BNDES’s presence in financing the GNA II UTE demonstrates its confidence in GNA’s strategic vision for creating a gas hub at Açu Port.”
