Letter Delivered to Bolsonaro Citing the Recovery of Jobs in Shipbuilding and Oil and Gas in Rio de Janeiro
During the meeting of the Movimento Rio Produtivo, a letter was delivered by President Angela Costa – ACRJ (Commercial Association of RJ) to the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro. This letter cites the diagnosis of the shipbuilding, oil, and gas industry in the state of Rio de Janeiro, pointing out paths so that, in a short period, it may be possible to generate thousands of jobs.
The letter states that it is known that the state of Rio de Janeiro still has the largest hub of shipbuilding and offshore repair facilities in Brazil, and it has ideal conditions to establish the largest park of this offshore frontier, carrying out platform decommissioning and dismantling its structures.

The proximity between the state’s coast and the pre-salt region is also a relevant geographical point, placing it in ideal conditions to host support bases and provide necessary support to oil and gas companies and/or offshore support operators.

It was emphasized that in Rio de Janeiro there are companies in regular financial and operational conditions, alongside other companies in judicial recovery or in the process of bankruptcy, as the crisis has affected and still affects the market as a whole.
In the pursuit of creating new jobs in Rio de Janeiro, the reactivation of the shipbuilding sector could close this year of 2021 and open 2022 with a large number of job openings, between 12,000 and 15,000 people, composed of workers, technicians, engineers, economists, accountants, and more, concluded the letter.
