7000 jobs – Chinese Consortium wins construction of Salvador Bridge

Attention Bahia professionals, 7 jobs will be created with the construction of the Salvador – Itaparica Island bridge. The winner of the auction held on Friday the 13th at the São Paulo Stock Exchange was a Chinese Group. The jobs don't stop there. the Government of Goiás announces 4 thousand jobs employment for the construction of the multimodal Platform of the Norte Sul do Brasil railroad.

According to the government of Bahia, the management and administration of the bridge will last for 30 years and will be the second largest in Latin America, with 12,4 km. The construction of the development will shorten the travel time by around 100 km.

Formed by the companies China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corporation – CR20; CCCC South America Regional Company S.Á.RL – CCCC SOUTH AMERICA and China Communications Construction Company Limited – CCCCLTD, the Ponte Salvador consortium will have one year to design the project and another four years to build the equipment.

The investment will be R$ 5,4 billion and the contribution from the State will be R$ 1,5 billion. The forecast is that seven thousand jobs will be created in Bahia during the construction of the bridge.

The equipment is included in the Oeste Road System, which also includes the installation of accesses to the equipment in Salvador, through tunnels and viaducts, and in Vera Cruz, with the connection to BA-001, together with a new express highway, and the interconnection with the Funil Bridge, which will also be revitalized.

The consortium bid was R$ 56,2 million. The bidding committee made up of representatives from the Infrastructure (Seinfra), Urban Development (Sedur) and Civil House secretariats received the material, which was analyzed and evaluated the guarantees of the proposals and the qualification documents.

The bidding was accompanied by Governor Rui Costa, by Vice-Governor João Leão and by the Infrastructure Secretaries, Marcus Cavalcanti, and the Civil House, Bruno Dauster.

Nowadays the crossing to Itaparica it is done by ferry boat, at the São Joaquim Terminal, in Salvador and by speedboats. Another option is to take the BR-324 and head towards Recôncavo Baiano.
