Morro do Cruzeiro is a wind complex greenfield located close to Statkraft's existing wind power assets in Bahia. The plants will consist of two wind farms, with 14 turbines and an installed capacity of 79,8 MW. Given the excellent wind conditions in the region, the complex will generate 386 GWh of renewable energy per year, enough to supply more than 190 homes.
Construction work on the plants will start in June this year and many job openings could be generated in Bahia
Construction begins in June 2022, with completion scheduled for early 2024. It is estimated that the first wind turbines will start operating in October 2023. The complex will use Nordex 163/5,7 MW wind turbines, the largest used by Statkraft to date. With a diameter of 163 meters, the rotors will cover an area equivalent to about three football fields.
The generation of renewable energy from wind farms will allow Statkraft to honor last year's public auction commitments. The remaining energy will be sold on the free market.
“Statkraft's ambition in Brazil is to be a major developer and operator of hydro, wind and solar energy, contributing to a greener and more sustainable planet. The Morro do Cruzeiro project brings us closer to this goal”, says the president of Statkraft in Brazil, Fernando de Lapuerta.
The conclusion of the two wind projects Morro do Cruzeiro and Ventos de Santa Eugênia, in Bahia, currently under construction, will more than double the installed capacity, which will be 1050 MW.
The construction of Morro do Cruzeiro is part of Brazil's growth strategy and contributes to achieving the goal of developing 6 GW of wind power globally by 2025.
