The generator will travel 290 kilometers through the interior of Maranhão, departing from the Port of Itaqui in São Luís towards Santo Antônio dos Lopes, on a journey estimated to take up to two weeks, reports the Brazilian company.
UTE Parnaíba V, a plant of the Eneva Thermoelectric Complex, will generate an additional 385 MW in Maranhão without additional gas consumption. According to contractor Techint, responsible for the project’s construction, all logistical operations to transport the generator, which exceeds 100 meters in length, have been validated by the relevant authorities at the municipal, state, and federal levels.

Transporting this load with the Eneva turbine generator is a logistical operation that has been designed to avoid causing significant traffic jams on BR-135.
The trip was scheduled to begin on November 20 but was postponed to yesterday (27). “A thorough study was necessary to minimize possible disruptions,” said Américo Jovino. The operation is expected to take 15 days.
In a statement, the PRF provides details of the operation, which will include escort and lead vehicles for the equipment along BR 135. The logistics are so complex that a meeting involving the PRF, EMAP, MOB, DNIT, PM, Techint, Eneva, the bus companies’ union, health and security departments, among other sectors likely to be directly impacted, was necessary. The logistics were designed by PRF and Techint Engenharia e Construção, responsible for transporting the cargo.
Project UTE Parnaíba V
Earlier this month, Eneva began the mechanical assembly phase of the Parnaíba V plant, supported by the Government of Maranhão, at the Parnaíba Complex in the municipality of Santo Antônio dos Lopes. With a total investment of R$ 1.3 billion in the project, operations are expected to begin in the second half of 2021. The goal of the plant is to increase energy generation capacity more efficiently in the Médio Mearim region, exceeding 70 MW of energy.
The Secretary of Industry, Trade, and Commerce, Simplício Araújo, stated that nearly 1,800 professionals are working on the project. In the next three months, it is forecast that 400 new vacancies will be opened, and by January 2021, this number will reach nearly two thousand people working. “Providing job opportunities for the people of the Médio Mearim region is one of the main objectives of this major investment for Maranhão and all of Brazil,” said Simplício Araújo.
This month, it is expected that the assembly of the turbine and generator at the Parnaíba Complex will begin – most of the large equipment for Parnaíba V has already been delivered. The Parnaíba V plant completes the cycle of Parnaíba I: it will represent an addition of more than 385 Megawatts (MW) to the energy generation capacity of the Parnaíba Complex.
