The CRVR Units of the Cities of Victor Graeff, Santa Maria and Giruá in Rio Grande do Sul Gained Their Biothermics Energy.
October 2022 – Green energy generation through the capture and treatment of biogas generated at the landfills of CRVR – Companhia Riograndense de Valorização de Resíduos do Grupo Solví is expanding in Rio Grande do Sul. Now, Biothermics Energy is present in three more Sustainable Valuation Units (UVS) of the company: Santa Maria, Victor Graeff, and Giruá. The inaugurations of Giruá and Victor Graeff were on September 22 and 23, and in Santa Maria, the inauguration took place on the last day of October 20.
All events featured the participation of the unit managers, local authorities, as well as their respective mayors from each municipality and representatives from the City Council and the community.
For these new thermals, the total investment was R$ 25 million. This was the first project delivered from CRVR’s investment plan, which foresees more than 1 billion reais over the next five years in the development of technologies that offer environmental improvements, positively impacting the community with the creation of new jobs and waste valorization.

For the year 2023, the UVS of São Leopoldo from CRVR is also expected to gain its biothermal. Thus, all UVS from CRVR will generate green electric energy from the organic waste deposited at landfills. “It is very rewarding to be able to reuse and create value from items that are considered waste by society,” emphasizes the Supervisor of the Biothermal of São Leopoldo of CRVR, Andressa Schummacher.
At the inauguration ceremony of the biothermics in Giruá and Victor Graeff, the CEO of CRVR, Leomyr Girondi, thanked the partnership with the municipalities and the efforts of all employees who made the project a reality. The Technical Superintendent of CRVR, Rafael Salamoni, also took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of transforming waste into energy: “In this way, we demonstrate in practice that all our actions are based on our great commitment to the environment and society,” he highlighted.
Understand How It Works
CRVR receives urban solid waste and disposes of it properly in landfills, preserving soil and water. Organic waste decomposes, initiating the gas generation process, which is channeled and sent for purification. In the next step, combustion engines are supplied with methane gas from the decomposition of the waste, and the engines generate electricity. This energy is sent to the electrical grid.
