City Hall and SENAI-RS Offer Free Course to Accelerate Reconstruction with Training in Masonry, Building Painting, Residential Plumbing, Ceramic Coatings, and More Competencies in Civil Construction.
With the aim of boosting economic recovery and assisting in the reconstruction of areas affected by floods, the City Hall of Canoas, through the Department of Economic Development and Innovation (SMDEI), launched an initiative to qualify the local population. In partnership with the National Service of Industrial Learning of Rio Grande do Sul (SENAI-RS), applications have opened for a free course in the civil construction sector, aimed at individuals wishing to enter or re-enter the job market.
The training includes practical and theoretical activities and will be conducted directly in municipal schools affected by the floods. The project is also part of the SENAI Program for Reconstruction and Community Training, which aims to offer alternatives for job and income generation to the population in vulnerable situations.
Free Training in the Civil Construction Sector
The free course covers various essential skills for the civil construction sector, such as masonry repairs, building painting, residential plumbing, ceramic coatings, residential electrical circuits, roofing, buildings, and wooden frames. The practical classes will take place in five schools in the municipal education network, also contributing to the recovery of educational spaces.

In addition to preparing participants for the job market, the initiative allows schools to be revitalized with the support of the students themselves in training, creating a cycle of learning and collaboration with concrete results for the community.
Applications Open with In-Person Support
Applications for the free course are already open and must be made in person at the headquarters of SMDEI, located at Rua Doutor Barcelos, No. 969, from Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM. Interested individuals must present a form of identification (RG), CPF, and fill out the declaration for free enrollment, which will be issued at the time of registration by the operational unit of SENAI-RS.
The City Hall reported that applications remain open indefinitely, and new classes will be formed according to demand over the 12 months of the Cooperation Agreement with SENAI-RS.
Students Will Have Complete Support During the Course
During the course, SENAI will be responsible for providing the teaching staff, teaching materials, and certification for participants. The City Hall of Canoas will ensure the physical structure for conducting the classes, as well as the necessary support for students, including transportation, materials, and equipment whenever needed.
Each class will be organized according to the specific needs of each municipal school involved in the project. The proposal also includes monitoring the performance of participants, focusing on the completion of training and referral to opportunities in the civil construction sector.
Initiative Expands Opportunities in the Job Market
The demand for qualified professionals in civil construction grows especially in times of reconstruction and economic recovery. The region of Canoas, strongly impacted by natural disasters, requires specialized labor to repair public and private infrastructures, making this type of free course even more relevant.
According to the Department of Economic Development and Innovation, the program has been designed not only to address an emergency but also to prepare citizens for enduring opportunities in the job market. The civil construction sector remains one of the largest employers in Brazil, offering jobs for professionals with different levels of education and experience.
Professional Qualification with Social Impact
The project stands out for combining technical qualification with a direct impact on the community. By training citizens for the job market while accelerating the recovery of schools, the initiative promotes benefits for both students and the city of Canoas.
In addition to professional training, students in the free course will have the opportunity to develop practical skills in a real work environment, contributing to the collective good. This measure reinforces the role of public authorities and vocational education institutions in the social and economic reconstruction of cities affected by extreme events.
