Buying a brand new car in Brazil is becoming increasingly difficult. With prices sky-high and no forecast of a drop, used vehicles have become the choice of many Brazilians looking for savings without giving up quality. Among the popular cars that are catching attention in the secondary market, the Citroën C3 stands out, a compact hatch that can be found for less than R$ 25,000 and has outperformed newer models in cost-benefit. In this article, you will discover why the Citroën C3 has become one of the most attractive options for those seeking economy and performance in the automotive market.

The compact hatch Citroën C3 arrived in Brazil as a local model in 2003 aiming to become the brand’s cheapest model in the market. Even being the cheapest, the popular car from Citroën had a more premium feel than its competitors at the time.

The first-generation Citroën C3 featured only the 1.6 16V engine, still present in Citroën models today, and two trim levels, GLX and Exclusive.

Both brought some rare and unique features for the category, such as power steering, a digital dashboard, and depth adjustment for the steering wheel. The top-of-the-line version of the popular car from Citroën stood out for its velvet upholstery, ABS, dual airbags, and front armrests.

Some time later, the French automaker made the 1.4 8V engine available in the compact hatch, which was imported. The strategy was to increase the range of versions and lower the price regarded as high to boost demand; however, the price only truly dropped in mid-2005, with the engine being manufactured in Brazil.

In this article, we highlight the Citroën C3 GLX 1.4 2011 version, an option that impresses with its balance between performance and fuel economy. Equipped with a 82-horsepower engine at 5,250 RPM and 12.6 kgfm of torque at 3,250 RPM, this compact hatch comes with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Its performance is solid, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 12 seconds and reaching a top speed of 173 km/h. In terms of fuel consumption, it achieves 7.6 km/l with ethanol and 10.2 km/l with gasoline in the city, while on the highway it reaches 9.1 km/l with ethanol and 12.4 km/l with gasoline.

Its urban range reaches 357 km with ethanol and 479 km with gasoline, while on the highway it can cover up to 428 km with ethanol and 583 km with gasoline.

In terms of dimensions, the C3 GLX measures 3,850 mm in length, 1,667 mm in width, 1,519 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,460 mm.

Weighing 1,091 kg, it offers a trunk with a capacity of 305 liters. In terms of safety, the model comes equipped with dual reflector headlights, side repeater lights, rear fog light, and a locking system. Additionally, it features air conditioning, depth-adjustable steering, power steering, electric mirror adjustments, and various other comfort items.

What To Notice When Buying The Compact Hatch?

The 1.4 engine of the popular car from Citroën delivers good performance and fuel economy, but it is often criticized and reported by owners. The first-generation Citroen C3 has chronic head gasket issues that can discourage those looking for this model to purchase.

The AL4 transmission is a recurring topic in forums and model groups from PSA. The controversy of whether or not to change the transmission oil generates many doubts and consequently mistakes in the maintenance of models with this type of transmission.
