Mayor Dr. Aluízio Suspends Onshore Oil and Gas Activities in Macaé for One Week and Creates Sanitary Barrier Due to Coronavirus

In the new decree signed this Sunday (22), Mayor Dr. Aluízio ordered the suspension of all commercial activities in the city, including the onshore and banking sectors, and creates a sanitary barrier at all access points of the municipality of Macaé due to the coronavirus.

Last week, in a press conference held on the morning of Tuesday, the 17th, at the auditorium of the University City about Coronavirus, the Mayor of Macaé, Dr. Aluizio (PSDB), announced that he would sign a new decree with preventive measures against the coronavirus, limiting the execution of activities involving onshore oil and gas in Macaé.

According to him, among other things, the decree will suspend the entry of tourist buses in Macaé for 30 days, a measure that the city hall believes is one of the ways to prevent the spread of the disease, which had its first fatality in Brazil on Tuesday in the State of São Paulo, which has the highest number of confirmed cases in the country.

“We will propose a 50% reduction in the workforce for the onshore oil and gas industry, so that the remainder can work from home due to the Coronavirus; the reduction of restaurant hours; that the mall follows the state government decree; that hotels limit social gatherings; in addition to declaring the suspension of tourist buses,” the mayor enumerated regarding the new decree measures. All activities related to onshore oil and gas in the Macaé region must stop this Monday (23). Besides the suspension of these segments, a sanitary barrier will also be created – all due to the Coronavirus.
