Residential Wind Energy Is Gaining Popularity in Brazil. Find Out the Costs of Wind Turbines, Where to Buy Them, and Whether It’s Worth Investing in a Wind System for Your Home.

Although the market for mini wind turbines for Distributed Generation is still in its early stages in Brazil, this form of energy production is not as common as other alternatives. Home wind energy generation works similarly to large wind farms, but on a much smaller scale. With the high costs of electricity in the country, this technology has the potential to attract more followers, following the example of the growing popularity of solar energy.

How Does Home Wind Energy Generation Work?

The coordinator of the Electrical Engineering course at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), Raphael Amaral, states that the operation of residential wind turbines is quite similar to that of large wind generators, the difference being that it must be adapted to the urban perimeter, thus they are not as widespread as solar energy.

Luiz César Sampaio, a mechanical engineer, adds that wind turbines work the same way and contain the same components. There is a blade system that absorbs energy from the wind, converts it into motion, and activates a generator that provides electrical energy in various ways to the unit.

For the system to work, some technology capable of converting the captured energy into an electric form must be used. It’s worth mentioning that Sampaio is also the director and founder of Enersud, a company that works with distributed generation devices for residences.

One of these methods is to capture energy and transfer it to a device called a inverter, which will convert that energy. This applies to both small systems and large ones. With this technology, it is possible to inject energy into your home’s network and even export it to the street.

What Is the Cost of Residential Wind Energy Generation and Where to Find the Equipment?

Considering people looking to generate wind energy at home, Enersud, Luiz César’s company, sells wind turbines. Among them is the Notus 138 from Enersud, which delivers a nominal power of 500W at a 24V output voltage.

This model was developed to meet small energy needs. Its main advantages are easy installation and low noise level. In addition, it features a modern speed control system through pitch control, ensuring maximum safety in any type of operation.

These wind turbines can be installed both connected to the grid and in off-grid autonomous systems, making them ideal for isolated locations not serviced by power distributors.

The costs for installing a wind system vary according to the desired power, which can range from 500W up to 6,000W, with prices ranging from R$ 2,7 thousand to R$ 50 thousand. However, there are other sites where similar products are available, such as Aliexpress, where there is a turbine that costs around R$ 900.

Where Can I Get Maintenance for My Wind Turbine?

Performing maintenance on a wind turbine is crucial to ensuring its efficiency and longevity. Generally, maintenance can be carried out by companies specialized in wind energy that offer complete services, covering everything from regular inspections to repairs and replacement of components.

To find a reliable service provider, you can start by consulting the manufacturer of your turbine, as many offer post-sale maintenance plans or can recommend certified partners in your area. Additionally, local renewable energy associations and online platforms can also provide lists of qualified technicians and maintenance companies with good reviews and verified credentials.

It is advisable to choose a company that not only understands the technical specifications of your installation but also has proven experience with the specific type of turbine you have. Preventive maintenance is particularly important, as it avoids major failures and reduces the risk of unexpected downtime.

These services include lubrication of moving parts, checking blades and electrical connections, and overall performance analysis of the turbine. Investing in regular maintenance not only protects your equipment but also ensures that you maximize energy production and return on investment.

Who Is Home Wind Energy Generation Ideal For?

Home wind energy generation is ideal for people living in areas with consistent winds who want to reduce their dependence on the traditional power grid, in addition to decreasing the environmental impact of their daily activities.

This type of system is particularly advantageous for residents of rural or remote areas, where the installation of conventional electricity may be costly or technically unfeasible. It is also an excellent option for those committed to sustainability and interested in renewable technologies.

By adopting wind turbines, homeowners can not only provide energy for their own needs but also, in some cases, sell the surplus back to the grid, generating an additional source of income. It is essential, however, to conduct a detailed site assessment to ensure that there is enough wind for the turbine to operate effectively throughout the year.

According to Sampaio, wind turbines are most useful in off-grid applications. However, to decide if it is advantageous, it is necessary to assess the environmental conditions in which the residence is located, since optimal wind circulation is required for the system to be activated. Thus, an engineer’s recommendation is to complement the wind system with solar, ensuring complete electrical energy supply from renewable sources.

Luiz César also highlights that the solar system struggles a lot with the lack of sunlight during the night. Wind energy, on the other hand, extends the autonomy of power supply. In places where the wind is very strong, it is possible to use wind generation alone; in places with heavy cloudiness, both complement each other.

Raphael Amaral also points out that the wind system also has some disadvantages, such as noise and the fact that it requires more frequent maintenance due to moving parts.

A MINHA OPINIÃO É QUE A ENERGIA ENQUANTO MAIS FÁCIL GERAR ELA É MELHOR COMODIDADE EM CADA LAR OU RESIDÊNCIAS.
