Green diesel on the agenda – A Diretoria Colegiada da ANP aprovou hoje (12/3) o início do processo de consulta/audiência pública sobre minuta de resolução que trata da especificação de um novo biocombustível a ser comercializado em território nacional. Trata-se do diesel verde, um combustível renovável para motores a combustão de ciclo diesel, produzido a partir de matérias-primas renováveis, como gorduras de origem vegetal e ******, cana-de-açúcar, álcool e biomassa.

The new fuel will be added to fossil diesel, which currently has a mandatory 12% biodiesel content, resulting in a ternary mixture, that is, a fuel made up of the three products.
The new biofuel consists predominantly of paraffinic hydrocarbons, having similar properties to diesel from fossil sources and differs from biodiesel, which is a mixture of fatty acid esters with similar properties.
The proposed regulation is in line with the National Biofuel Policy (RenovaBio), dealt with in Law No. 13.576, of 26/12/2017, which aims to expand the use of biofuels in the Brazilian energy matrix, with a view to energy security , predictability for the competitive participation of the various biofuels in the domestic market and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions.
Green diesel can benefit aviation sector
The regulation of green diesel could also enable the production and commercialization of aviation bio kerosene, already regulated by ANP Resolution No. 778, of 2019, since the production of biofuels in the context of biorefineries generates different bioproducts in the same process.
The initiative is the result of the ANP carrying out an analysis of the regulatory impact brought about by the insertion of this new biofuel in the Brazilian market, as well as studies of the international specifications of green diesel sold internationally. The public consultation period for the proposal will be 45 days.
