Donald Trump Appoints Retired Army General Keith Kellogg As Special Envoy For The Russia-Ukraine War. Former National Security Council Chief Of Staff Will Be Key In Trump’s Plans To End The Conflict

Donald Trump has already begun to shape the direction of his potential second term by naming retired Army General Keith Kellogg as special envoy for the Russia-Ukraine war. The choice reflects Trump’s commitment to ending the conflict, which has become one of the central promises of his foreign policy.

Kellogg, 80, is already known for his role as chief of staff for the National Security Council during Trump’s first term. Now, he will play a central role in efforts to negotiate a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv when Trump returns to the White House. The 2024 presidential elect insists that he is capable of ending the war “on the first day” of his new administration, although details about how that would be accomplished remain scarce.

Trump’s Appointee Has A Plan

Retired Army General Keith Kellogg, however, has left no doubt about his vision for ending the conflict. In an article published by the pro-Trump think tank America First, Kellogg presented a structured plan that includes conditioning military aid to Ukraine on its participation in peace negotiations, as well as proposing a delay in the country’s entry into NATO as a way to pressure Vladimir Putin. According to him, the war was an avoidable crisis, fueled by the “incompetent policies” of the Biden administration.

Kellogg also emphasized the need for strong leadership to guide peace efforts, aligned with the principles of “America First,” championed by Donald Trump. The general criticizes sending weapons to Ukraine, labeling it as a symbolic and costly gesture, without concrete results to promote peace.

"America First" is the central philosophy of Donald Trump's foreign policy, focused on prioritizing U.S. interests above alliances or external interventions. Retired Army General Keith Kellogg's plan reflects this approach by aligning peace negotiations and sanctions with strategic benefits for Americans.

Keith Kellogg’s Plan For The Conflict

The article, co-authored by Fred Fleitz, outlines a pragmatic approach to ending the war:

Diplomatic Pressure: Ukraine should agree to delay its NATO entry to draw Putin to the negotiating table.

Conditional Sanctions: Moscow could receive relief from sanctions in exchange for a ceasefire, a demilitarized zone, and a commitment to peace negotiations.

Restricted Military Aid: The U.S. would only provide military support to Ukraine if there were concrete efforts to engage in dialogue with Russia.

Financial Reparations: Fees on Russian energy sales would be directed towards the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Kellogg also noted that a comprehensive diplomatic resolution may be unfeasible while Putin remains in power, but that intermediate steps can lay the foundation for a future agreement.

An Ambitious Challenge

The appointment of retired Army General Keith Kellogg signals Trump’s strategy of placing experienced figures aligned with his vision in charge of critical global issues. The war between Russia and Ukraine is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges in current international politics.

For Trump and Kellogg, success will depend on combining pragmatism, diplomatic pressure, and an approach that prioritizes American interests. It remains to be seen if this strategy will be sufficient to fulfill the promise of ending the conflict in record time.
