The price reductions came after an increase in federal taxes on gasoline, diesel, and ethanol at the beginning of the month. After all, gasoline saw an increase of R$ 0.47 per liter. In the third week of March, the price dropped by 0.40%. It is worth noting that this reduction was recorded in 18 federal units. As for ethanol, the price decreased by 0.27%, reaching R$ 4.027 per liter.
Regarding ethanol, prices at producing plants decreased, which directly impacted the final price at the pumps. Only in the state of São Paulo, the price at the plants dropped by 2.22%, according to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics at USP/Esalq.
Finally, the S-10 diesel experienced a decrease of 0.33% at the pumps, reaching R$ 6.240 per liter. However, expectations are that gradual reductions will occur in the coming months.
Petrobras Announced a 4.48% Decrease in Diesel Price per Liter at Distributors This Thursday (23)
This Thursday (23), Petrobras made an official announcement of a 4.48% reduction in the price of diesel passed on from distributors. Thus, type A diesel will drop from R$ 4.02 to R$ 3.84 at refineries.
At the beginning of March, the company made its last price adjustment for fuels, with a drop of R$ 0.08 in diesel prices. During the same period, gasoline decreased from R$ 3.31 to R$ 3.18.
According to representatives from Petrobras, the reduction in diesel prices aims to maintain competitive prices in the market. Thus, the company can continue to invest in refining assets and improve the quality of petroleum derivatives.
Renewable Fuels Still Remain at a Disadvantage in the National Market
According to the National Agency of Petroleum (ANP), renewable fuels and biofuels still present a commercial disadvantage, especially with the decline of fossil fuels. In this sense, the price difference between fossil fuels and biofuel recorded a national average of 71.1% in this third week.
However, ethanol remains competitive in some states like Mato Grosso, Goiás, and Amazonas. After all, the drop in Goiás was 3.1%, and in Mato Grosso, it was 1.3%. This is still far from ideal, but timid initiatives may have some long-term effect.
