Chevrolet Spark EUV Electric Mini-SUV Arrives to Compete at the Top. In Tests, It Stood Out for Its Standard ADAS Package with ACC, AEB, and Lane Keeping, Rare Among Entry-Level Electric Vehicles.

The Chevrolet Spark EUV is already being evaluated in Brazil and aims directly at the leader among affordable electric vehicles, the BYD Dolphin mini. In mini-SUV format and with a advanced safety package, it bets on urban comfort, a good trunk, and an aggressive price to challenge the BYD Dolphin. According to Quatro Rodas, which has already test-driven the car, the set is more balanced than expected for the entry-level EV segment.

GM positioned the Spark EUV with a starting price of R$ 159,990 during the pre-sale, a value that kicked off the brand’s new electric offensive in the country. The proposal is to compete equally with the most popular Chinese models, especially the Dolphin, which dominates the compact electric segment.

The Chevrolet move provoked an immediate reaction in the market. BYD reduced the price of the Dolphin GS in the 2026 lineup to R$ 149,990, in addition to including comfort items that enhance the hatch’s cost-benefit ratio. The repositioning makes the competition tougher and highlights that the entry-level urban EV segment has become more competitive.

In practice, Brazilian consumers now have two similarly priced options: a hatch already known to the public and a newly arrived mini-SUV, with a “boxy” design and a more adventurous visual proposal, both aimed at daily use in the cities.

Range, Battery, and Charging According to Brazilian Standards

In Brazil, the relevant data for range is the PBEV cycle from Inmetro. According to Chevrolet, the Spark EUV achieves 258 km in this protocol and uses a 42 kWh battery with DC charging of up to 50 kW. At home, the brand offers AC charging solutions and its own accessories to accelerate the charging process, which fits well with urban routines.

For direct reference, Quatro Rodas recalls that the BYD Dolphin GS claims 44.9 kWh and up to 291 km PBEV, with fast charging of up to 60 kW. The numerical difference exists, but it does not invalidate the practical use of the Spark for daily commutes, especially when there is a charging point at home or work.

In simple terms, this means that the Spark EUV provides sufficient range for a typical urban driver’s week, with occasional stops to recharge. The choice between the models depends more on usage profile and available infrastructure than just catalog numbers.

Interior Space, Dimensions, and Trunk

Despite its compact size, the Spark EUV measures 4.003 m in length, 1.76 m in width, 1.726 m in height, and 2.56 m in wheelbase. The numbers reveal a car that is shorter than the Onix in length, but taller, which favors the driving position and the perception of robustness in daily use.

The major practical advantage is the 355-liter trunk with a side opening, well above the 250 liters of the Dolphin. For those who do weekly shopping, carry carry-on luggage, or work equipment, this difference matters. The “SUV roots” look with a side lid adds personality without sacrificing usability.

There is one drawback: the Spark EUV accommodates four occupants, not five. For families that often fill the back seat, this limitation should be considered. In compensation, the vertical space is good, and the sense of openness is pleasing.

Safety and Technology: ADAS as a Differentiator

Here, Chevrolet counters effectively. According to the official brand website, the Spark EUV offers ACC (adaptive cruise control), curve cruise assistance, lane keeping, AEB (autonomous emergency braking), and automatic high beam, in addition to 360° cameras and 6 airbags. These ADAS features are often found in more expensive cars and enhance active safety in urban traffic.

Recent published tests reinforce that this assistance package is not available on the Dolphin GS under the same conditions, which helps explain GM’s strategy to sell a mini-SUV with a “premium” look in terms of safety. For those who prioritize driver assistance technology, this is a clear point in favor of the Spark.

Moreover, the driver’s seat with electric adjustment, the 10.1″ center console with Android Auto and CarPlay via cable, and the 8.8″ dashboard create a modern environment, with ergonomics that facilitate daily use.

Driving Impressions and Dynamic Tuning

In the first outings on national soil, the Spark EUV proved to be agile enough for traffic lights and turns, with 101 hp and 18.4 kgfm. The 0 to 100 km/h in 11.2 s is not a reference for sportiness, but it meets expectations for an urban electric, with immediate motor response and three driving modes that adjust the behavior.

The highlight was the firmer and more communicative suspension, which conveys confidence in curves and lane changes, even though it makes uneven surfaces more noticeable. On bumpy roads, the comfort is not the best in the group, but the sense of control compensates for those who value stability.

At the steering wheel, there is a slightly heavier weight than that of its rival, which provides a sense of precision without being tiring. For drivers who dislike overly light steering, this tuning can be a plus for daily use.

Points of Attention Before Closing the Deal

The 50 kW limit for DC charging means slightly longer stops than some competitors at high-power charging stations. For those who rely heavily on highways and long trips, it’s wise to plan routes and check the available network. Conversely, for primarily urban use with home charging, the impact tends to be minimal.

The fact that it only has four seats also requires attention. If you frequently need to transport three passengers in the back, the Dolphin may be more convenient. If usage is for two or three occupants, the 355 L trunk of the Spark weighs more in the decision.

There is also a curious design detail: the central cover of the charging ports may interfere with the hood opening when raised. It’s not something that should hinder daily use, but it’s worth checking in person at the dealership how the assembly behaves.

Is It Worth It? What This Test Reveals About the “Anti-Dolphin”

For those looking to enter the world of electric vehicles with a competitive price, good safety features, and generous trunk capacity, the Spark EUV offers a convincing package. GM adds to this the widespread availability of its network and 3-year warranty for the vehicle and 8 years for the battery, factors that help reduce the anxiety of those transitioning from combustion vehicles.

The Dolphin counters with a lower price, more powerful fast charging, and superior PBEV range. In other words, the decision will depend on priorities: those who value standard ADAS and the mini-SUV format tend to lean towards the Spark; those seeking the lowest possible price and more favorable range figures may prefer the BYD.

The fact is that the tests in Brazil have shown that Chevrolet is not just a “novelty of the moment.” It surprises with finish, technology, and usability, raising the bar for accessible electric vehicles. The competition is getting fierce for consumers, and it encourages further price cuts and content improvements in the coming months.
