”Indian Elon Musk” Developed An Electric Car For Over 18 Thousand Pounds. The Solar-Powered Car Is Covered With Panels And Was Developed Over 11 Years.
An Indian inventor gained media attention for developing a solar-powered car. According to data reported by Euronews, the electric car of the “Indian Elon Musk” took about 11 years to become a reality. The inventor’s name is Bilal Ahmed, a mathematics teacher in Srinagar, Kashmir, India. His invention has been called the first solar-powered car in the region.
“Indian Elon Musk” Used High-Efficiency Solar Panels
The project for the electric car came from the idea of developing a luxury and sustainable vehicle that, at the same time, was popular. This invention fits well in current times, considering that the prices of fuels like gasoline are increasingly high and electric mobility is shifting toward a more renewable scenario.

To make the use of the electric car more efficient, the “Indian Elon Musk” used solar panels that can generate greater efficiency even on days with little sunlight, given that the region where he lives is cold.
What is most remarkable about Ahmed’s creation is that it was made without any kind of sponsorship or external funding. Over Rs 15 lakh, approximately 18,200 pounds, were invested in the electric car’s development. According to the “Indian Elon Musk,” from the beginning to the end of the project, no one provided any financial assistance.
Solar-Powered Car Is Entirely Covered With Panels
Another quality of Ahmed’s invention is that almost all the surfaces of the electric car are covered with solar energy panels, from the vehicle hood to the rear windshield. The “Indian Elon Musk” opted for monocrystalline solar panels, where each photovoltaic cell is produced from a single silicon crystal.
The installed solar panels can produce more kilowatt-hours of electricity than any other type of solar receptor material, the polycrystalline panels. Another great feature that makes the inventor’s electric car so special are its ‘gull-wing’ doors, which open upward, resembling a luxury car that could take flight at any moment. The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, even made comparisons of the “Indian Elon Musk” vehicle to the vehicle from the famous movie Back to the Future.
Solar-Powered Car Developed In India Features Panels That Follow The Sun
In fact, these “wings” turned upward aim to allow the doors to capture as much sunlight as possible. Ahmed also explained that the panels can be operated via remote control to change their direction according to the sun’s movement.
Moreover, the solar-powered car also uses a regenerative braking system, which helps with energy savings for the batteries. Due to all these benefits, the “Indian Elon Musk” car has great potential to revolutionize the electric vehicle market, and the inventor’s plans are to open a company focused on larger-scale production of this type of vehicle, which could also generate jobs in the region where he lives.
The automotive prototype has the initials YMC printed on the side, in homage to Ahmed’s children: Yosha and Maisha. Currently, the inventor has the support of the innovation center of the IIED National Institute of Technology in Srinagar. According to Saad Parvez, head of IIED, the center will contribute to the development of the innovation and connect with industries or forums.
