After Challenging Putin, Elon Musk Plans To Build A Solar Plant In European Territory. The Chosen Country Is Spain, Which Supports Solar Energy. The Goal Of The Plant Is To Reduce Dependence On Gas Coming From Russia.

Elon Musk Has Already Challenged Vladimir Putin To A Duel Over Ukraine and now, the businessman and billionaire has made a suggestion to Europeans to mitigate dependence on Russian gas. The Tesla founder tweeted last Tuesday (5) that Spain should build a huge solar plant to generate energy for all of Europe. After the post, the Prime Minister of the European country, Pedro Sánchez, invited Elon Musk to visit his country and conveyed that the doors are open for investments in solar energy.

According to the Minister, in response to Elon Musk’s tweet, which seeks to depend less on Russian gas, the most ambitious plan for an efficient and renewable energy system is already being implemented. Therefore, opportunities, digitalization, and value chain will be maximized for lasting success with solar plants.

In 2016, Musk bought the solar panel producer, SolarCity for US$ 2.6 billion, which aims to become one of the largest suppliers of solar energy. The Prime Minister of Spain is a strong advocate of renewable energies such as solar energy and has already announced investments of €16 billion for the country’s energy transition by 2026.

Spain is among the countries with the best climatic conditions for building a solar plant, as it has more sunny days throughout the year than the rest of the continent.

Understand Putin’s Strategy In Relation To The Russian Gas Market

Since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, countries are looking for other ways to reduce their need for Russian gas. Elon Musk’s post was made a few days after the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, demanded payment for Russian gas in rubles, the local currency.

The President’s strategy is seen as a way to increase the value of the local currency, but it also demonstrates Putin’s power to make other countries yield to his move, considering the great need of Europeans for the country’s gas.

In March, Elon Musk provoked the Russian president in a challenge, where the winning duelist would take Ukraine. The billionaire, who plans to install a solar plant in Spain, even tagged the Kremlin in his posts and asked what the presidential account would think of the “mano a mano.” The businessman’s provocation garnered 273,000 likes in just one day, and internet users responded to Musk humorously, analyzing a possible physical fight between the two.

Elon Musk Plans To Buy Graphite From Mozambique To Avoid Dependence On China

In addition to avoiding the use of Russian gas, Tesla, the electric car company of billionaire Elon Musk announced in January this year that it will start sourcing graphite, an essential material in battery production for vehicles, from Mozambique, Africa.

The reason is to depend less on Chinese graphite, where the company has some controversies. In December last year, Musk closed a deal with Syrah Resources, which holds one of the largest graphite mines in the world in Mozambique.

The company’s ambitions of not needing to source graphite from China are so great that Tesla claims it plans to purchase 80% of what the plant in Mozambique produces within 3 years, which amounts to 8,000 tons of graphite per year.
