A Chinese Electric Car Surprised The Automotive Industry By Surpassing Sales Of Giants Like Ford And GM In Just One Year. The Achievement Reinforces The Accelerated Advance Of The Chinese Industry In The Global Race For Innovation And Leadership In The Electric Car Market.
In less than a year, a Chinese electric car achieved an unprecedented feat: selling more than giants like Ford and General Motors. The Xiaomi SU7 became a phenomenon in record time and placed China at the center of the electric revolution.
A New Scenario In The Automotive Market
China is experiencing a new era. The popularization of electric cars is real, and the numbers are impressive. For the first time, millions of people are able to buy their first vehicles, and many choose electric ones. Affordable prices and a national electrification strategy are driving this growth.
In the midst of this scenario, the Xiaomi SU7 stands out. A sedan with performance comparable to luxury brand models, such as Porsche and Tesla, but at a more competitive price. The proposal quickly attracted Chinese consumers.

Results That Catch Attention
Xiaomi had planned to sell 100,000 units of the SU7 by the end of 2024. But this number has already more than doubled.
In less than a year, over 200,000 units have been registered. And there is an expectation of delivering an additional 350,000 cars this year.
The demand was so high that production needed to be increased. The current factory is already operating at maximum capacity. A second, even larger factory is set to begin operation in the coming months. This will allow Xiaomi to further increase its market presence.
Surpassing American Giants
The numbers are clear. In 2024, the SU7 sold 139,487 units. Alone, it surpassed the combined electric vehicle sales of Ford and GM, two of the largest automakers in the United States.
Ford, for example, sold only 999 electric cars in China in 2024. In the United States, it was around 97,000. GM sold 69,403 units in China and 114,400 in the U.S. Even when combining both countries, neither brand reached the performance of the SU7.
The achievement is even more impressive considering that the SU7 is sold only in China. And even so, it is already close to surpassing Volkswagen, with a difference of only 40,000 units.
Technology And Cost-Benefit Of The Chinese Electric Car
The success of the SU7 is not just a matter of numbers. The car delivers performance, finish, and technology at a price that other brands cannot match. This combination has been winning over consumers and shaking up the industry.
Even Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, recognized the quality of the SU7. After six months of using the car, he stated that he was impressed with the model.
This shows that Xiaomi has truly managed to create a competitive product, capable of challenging established brands.
Despite the resounding success, the SU7 is still not sold outside China. But this may change soon. Xiaomi has already initiated important steps to take the model to other markets.
The global market is watching. After all, a single car managed to surpass big names in the industry. The international expansion of the SU7 could be the next chapter of this surprising story.
