Embraer Secured One of Its Largest Contracts in Recent History. Avelo Airlines, the U.S. Low-Cost Carrier, Confirmed the Purchase of 50 E195-E2 Aircraft, with an Option for Another 50, in a Deal Worth US$ 4.4 Billion.

Avelo Airlines announced an order for 50 Embraer E195-E2 jets, with an option to acquire another 50 in the future.

The list price of the deal is US$ 4.4 billion, and the first deliveries are expected in the first half of 2027.

This agreement marks the debut of Embraer’s most advanced aircraft in the United States, consolidating an important milestone for the E2 Program.

The planes will gradually replace part of the fleet and complement the current Boeing 737NGs of the company.

Expansion of the Air Network

The performance of the E195-E2 on short runways is guaranteed by the exclusive E2TS system, which will allow Avelo to explore new markets.

Additionally, fuel efficiency and low noise levels are factors that enhance the model’s competitiveness.

According to Andrew Levy, founder and CEO of Avelo Airlines, passengers will benefit from 2×2 seats, larger overhead bins, and a quiet cabin. He emphasized that the aircraft is ideal for the future growth of the network because it combines efficiency and comfort.

Embraer’s Vision

Arjan Meijer, president and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, stated that the E195-E2 is a game changer. He highlighted that the combination of low consumption, quiet operation, and the ability to operate on short runways will optimize Avelo’s network.

The Avelo Airlines started operations in April 2021 and has already transported nearly eight million customers on over 62,000 flights.

Currently, the fleet includes 22 Boeing 737 and serves 47 cities in 18 states, Puerto Rico, and three international destinations: Jamaica, Mexico, and Dominican Republic.

Avelo Airlines

For Avelo Airlines, founded in 2021, the order demonstrates ambitions for sustainable growth. The company has become known for offering low-cost, convenient, and on-time flights, with a fleet composed so far only of Boeing 737 Next Generation.

The inclusion of the E195-E2 will allow the opening of new routes, optimization of costs, and reach smaller cities or airports with more limited infrastructure.

This fits perfectly into the expansion strategy of a company that in less than four years has already transported nearly eight million customers on over 62,000 flights.

Strategic Impact for Embraer

The agreement reinforces its position as a world leader in jets of up to 150 seats and signals that the E2 program has reached maturity and international competitiveness.

Since its founding in 1969, Embraer has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft.

Arjan Meijer, president and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, described the E195-E2 as a game changer.

The E195-E2 is a game changer for airlines looking to grow profitably while enhancing the passenger experience, he said

Another strategic factor is the E2TS (Enhanced Take-Off System), Embraer’s proprietary technology that optimizes performance on short runways.

This advantage will allow Avelo to expand its destination network to regional airports that were previously unviable for larger aircraft.

The system, combined with low fuel consumption and reduced noise, gives the E195-E2 decisive advantages over competitors.

Embraer is the main national exporter of high value-added goods and each contract of this size reinforces the relevance of the Brazilian aerospace industry in the global scenario.

The E195-E2: The Largest and Most Advanced Aircraft from Embraer

If the first part of the story shows the commercial achievement, the second reveals the protagonist: the Embraer E195-E2, the largest member of the E2 family.

It brings together a series of technological and operational advances that distinguish it both from the previous generation and from direct rivals, such as the Airbus A220.

Performance and Efficiency

With a length of 41.5 meters and wingspan of 35.1 meters, the E195-E2 can carry up to 146 passengers in high-density configuration.

In more comfortable arrangements, it accommodates 120 to 132 seats. Its range reaches 4,815 km, which can be extended to up to 5,560 km after the latest improvements implemented by Embraer.

The maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) has been increased to 62,500 kg, and the model consumes about 29% less fuel per seat compared to the first generation of E-Jets.

This efficiency is one of the main attractions for companies looking to reduce operational costs and carbon emissions, aligning with the environmental goals of the aviation sector.

Technical Differentiators

The E195-E2 incorporates the E2TS, already mentioned, which improves performance on short runways, opening opportunities for operations at airports with restrictions.

The aircraft also uses next-generation Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, which offer superior performance and quieter operation.

In addition, Embraer redesigned the wings and implemented state-of-the-art flight control systems, providing greater stability, efficiency, and reliability.

These solutions allow the aircraft to compete evenly with larger models while keeping lower costs.

History and Global Relevance

The first flight of the E195-E2 took place in March 2017, and joint certification by the aviation authorities of the United States, Europe, and Brazil was issued in 2019.

Azul Linhas Aéreas was the launch customer, receiving its first unit in September of that year. Since then, airlines such as Binter Canarias and KLM Cityhopper have also incorporated the model into their fleets.
