Dualbase, A Company Founded in Santa Catarina, Installed the First Atmospheric Data Measurement Equipment in Antarctica with Fully Brazilian Technology.

The company from Santa Catarina, Dualbase, installed the first atmospheric data measurement equipment with fully Brazilian technology. The opportunity came for the company in 2019; however, researchers from the Terrantar Research Center at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) have been studying the soil in Antarctica for almost two decades.

Atmospheric Data Measurement Information is Transmitted via Satellite

Terrantar is part of the National Institute of Science and Technology of the Cryosphere, which brings together Brazilian researchers conducting studies in the Brazilian Antarctic Program (Proantar). Most of the time, the research is carried out in the area of the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station, a Brazilian base located on King George Island.

The researchers of Terrantar count approximately 40 points with sensors in the region. Before the installation of the technology with satellite transmission, data from Dualbase were collected annually during trips to the continent.

Dualbase took the opportunity to bring its own atmospheric data equipment to Antarctica, a weather station that measures temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity, and atmospheric pressure. The data from Antarctica is transferred via satellite and through the available 3G cellular network on site. This data is open and can be accessed via the internet.

Atmospheric Data Measurement Equipment Can Operate at -40 and -70 Degrees

All of this is done automatically, without the need for a professional to go to the collection points. However, a team remains on standby to carry out preventive maintenance, calibrate and clean the equipment, and also to correct any failures. The entrepreneurs take great pride in their work.

According to the President of Dualbase, Felipe Jahn, CEO, it was an interesting challenge. Few companies have the opportunity to place equipment in such an extreme location. According to Jahn, the atmospheric data measurement equipment was developed to operate from -40 to -70 degrees.

However, this was tested only in the laboratory, and Dualbase never had the chance to put its product in a real condition for such a long time. The team feels a sense of pride. It is the first station entirely produced by Brazilians to operate in Antarctica.

Meet Dualbase

Dualbase is an innovative company, and since its founding in 2009, it has always sought to develop and improve its products, services, and relationships with the aim of achieving maximum performance and quality.

Its customers notice this in every sensor or PCD produced. In 2010, Dualbase received support from the PRIME program, and in 2014 it was awarded the TECNOVA program, both promoted by FINEP and organized by FAPESC. Since 2011, it has been the only company in Latin America associated with the SDI-12 Support Group, and in 2018 it joined HMEI, also being the only company in Latin America.

Data shows its pioneering spirit and vision that looks far beyond the horizon. Its structure occupies an area of 2,000 m², and the central building of 750 m² houses the manufacturing park, administrative area, and research and development area.

Dualbase is located in Palhoça (SC), 15 km from the state capital. The company is located along BR-101 and 25 km from Florianópolis International Airport, a strategic position not only in terms of logistics but also because the region is known as the Brazilian Silicon Valley.
