With The Right to Win An Award For Best Innovation, Solar Energy Company GAF Energy Developed Solar Panels That Can Be Placed On Roofs Of Any Residence

GAF Energy, a North American solar roofing supplier, announced the launch of the world’s first nail-down solar roof, named Timberline Solar. This week, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2022 held in Las Vegas, USA, the Timberline Solar Energy Shingle, as the technology with solar panels on roofs is called, will receive awards for Best Innovation in the category of Innovation and Smart Cities.

What sets the solar-generating product apart from other roof-mounted solar panels on the market, like Tesla’s, for example, is that the system integrates solar technology directly into traditional roofing processes and materials.

According to GAF Energy, the shingles are manufactured at the company’s facilities located in San Jose, California. The new panels are designed to withstand winds of up to 210 km/h. According to GAF Energy’s president, Martin DeBono, solar-generating roofs are the future of clean energy, and Timberline Solar is the innovation that will take everyone there.

Also, according to Standard Industries CEOs, the parent company of GAF Energy, David Millstone and David Winter, realizing our vision of a mass market solar roof has been GAF Energy’s mission since it launched about 3 years ago. What the team has achieved is extraordinary, the CEOs stated.

New Solar Energy Roof Is The First To Be Recognized In Two Designations

The Timberline Solar project achieved UL certification 7103, allowing GAF Energy to install the system in residential roofs as both a solar energy product and a roofing product, being the first to be recognized in both designations.

Additionally, GAF Energy collaborated with Sandia National Laboratories, a research and development laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, to verify the strength, readiness, and overall durability of the product in the market.

Tesla Announces Its Solar Roof Tiles With Lifespan Up To 30 Years

The new solar tile from Tesla could revolutionize the market due to its incredibly low price, which can be compared to that of standard tiles and may last up to 30 years. Production of the solar roof product was supposed to have started 4 years ago but had to be delayed to ensure all quality objectives were met.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk wants the product to last at least 30 years without needing replacement, in addition to a cost that aligns with a standard roof. The price of the solar tile was also announced four years ago through a publication, where the brand had already begun the ordering phase.

Despite the production delay, considering the labor for the installation and removal of standard tiles and the material, the total cost of the Tesla tile would be around US$ 42 for 0.09 square meters.
