Locar Intends To Use Its Barge To Lay The Pipelines Of Route 3 Connecting Comperj To The Pre-Salt Of The Santos Basin
Comperj is eagerly continuing the project in Itaboraí – RJ, which according to projections, will be the largest petrochemical in the country. This statement is justified because the new phase of Brazilian oil exploration requires this project to transport all current and future production from the pre-salt. Naturally, this new cycle of prosperity attracts the attention of many companies, one of them being Locar, which is about to secure a contract for laying the pipelines of Route 3, which will connect Comperj to the pre-salt of the Santos Basin.
It happens that Locar invested about 140 million reais in a barge that lays pipelines in 2013 with the intention of providing launching services and meeting national demand, even in Latin America for various hydrological projects. Well, in 2014, the crisis hit, leading to the termination of several contracts, including Comperj, but now everything seems favorable. It secured a contract with Sapura Energy Brasil for the works of the Thermal Power Plant of Sergipe under the management of CELSE, in addition to already being in talks with a company from Malaysia.

It is worth mentioning that Locar is the only company with this type of vessel in Brazil, and experts say that it will indeed be contracted for this project and others. Remembering that it will “outsource to a third-party company” of Petrobras, although the state-owned company has not yet approved the bidding, two companies that are in the final stretch are Sapura and McDermott, and Locar is expected to provide services for one of them, regardless of which one ends up winning.
