ES Stands Out in the Liquefied Natural Gas Sector and Could Receive an Investment of Up to R$ 290 Million in a LNG Terminal That Could Generate Several Jobs. The State Also Already Has Two Thermal Power Projects Underway
When it comes to natural gas, Espírito Santo (ES) has a scenario that appears promising, with several projects for Natural Gas Processing Units (UPGN), ports, thermal power plants, and even the opportunity to have a route for the flow of gas from the pre-salt and a new LNG terminal, which could generate thousands of jobs.

An Investment of Over R$ 290 Million
According to the Energy Research Company (EPE), the investment in the project could exceed R$ 290 million. The state-owned company launched this week the first edition of the “Indicative Plan for LNG Terminals,” which discusses in detail projects presented at a conceptual level. The publication was supervised by Heloisa Borges, Director of Oil and Natural Gas Studies at EPE.
The project indicated by the company in ES would be located in the city of Presidente Kennedy. The company also states that the state is one of the main players in the natural gas market in Brazil, interconnecting the Southeast and Northeast markets.

Currently, the Southeast region already has two LNG terminals located in Rio de Janeiro, with a regasification capacity of 30 million m³/day. Thus, EPE states that the number of terminals like these could increase, considering that several investors are looking at the region.
Presidente Kennedy Stands Out in the LNG Market
In this sector, the city of Presidente Kennedy (ES) is quite privileged, and the study highlights that the municipality has about two medium or large thermal power projects that will generate several jobs.
The expectation is that large consumers of natural gas will build their industries in the area. The city will also host a new route for the flow of natural gas from the pre-salt.
However, the growth of LNG in ES will not be limited to onshore investments, considering that EnP is seeking partners for the installation of a new offshore natural gas hub in the state, which will be responsible for creating several jobs.
Other States with Great Potential in LNG
The costs of the terminal, excluding the tanking, are approximately R$ 291 million. Implementing a terrestrial gas pipeline would be a more significant investment, corresponding to 43% of the direct costs of the venture.
In addition to the terminal in ES, the study also showed three other potential projects in Itacoatiara (AM), Pontal do Paraná (PR), and São Luís (MA), which will generate several jobs. The four LNG terminal projects total a regasification capacity of 56 million m³/day and the investments would reach the level of R$ 1.1 billion.
