Global Reference in LNG, Golar Power Files Installation License Request for the Natural Gas Terminal in Santa Catarina and Aims to Create Many Jobs in the Region
The multinational Golar Power is implementing the Southern Gas Terminal (TGS) in the Babitonga Bay, in the municipality of São Francisco do Sul, in Santa Catarina. The investment is R$ 400 million and is expected to generate 1,275 indirect jobs. The project involves an FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) ship, which will be installed 300 meters off the coast of Santa Catarina.

The Golar Power project already has the Preliminary Environmental License issued by the Institute for the Environment (IMA) in 2019. Currently, the multinational is focusing on the legal procedures and alignments for the request of the Installation License for the terminal with the environmental agency.
The government of Santa Catarina gathered executives for the proceedings of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal installation project in the state. To this end, the next steps in the process will be accompanied by a technical group with representatives from the involved agencies, as well as experts in the energy and gas sector.

Golar Power has been heavily investing in Brazil. In March of this year, the company and the Government of the State of Pernambuco signed a protocol of intentions for new private investments in the Suape Complex. The initiative is for a liquefied natural gas distribution terminal, with the expectation of generating 300 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
About the LNG Terminal in Santa Catarina
The project in São Francisco do Sul includes a floating liquefied natural gas unit and a small gas pipeline, about 30 kilometers long, which includes a two-kilometer subsea section in Babitonga Bay. The ship will be 300 meters from the shore.
The FSRU will have the capacity to supply 15 million cubic meters of fuel per day to supply local industries, such as ceramics, metalworking, and glass, as well as meet the demand for thermoelectric plants in the areas near the enterprise and generate jobs in the state.
