EBAC and Indique uma Preta Launch Scholarship Program with Free Online Courses Benefiting Black and Indigenous Populations in Brazil
With the aim of creating professional opportunities and making access to education and the job market in Brazil more diverse and inclusive, EBAC – British School of Creative Arts and Technology, in partnership with the consulting firm Indique uma Preta, launched last Monday (11/20), the Scholarship Program for free courses that will benefit individuals who self-declare as Black, Brown, or Indigenous across the country. Registration is open until 12/10.
In the Program, EBAC will provide 50 free study scholarships for courses in the areas of Design, Programming & Data, Audiovisual, Games, Marketing, Software, Business, and Fashion. Indique uma Preta, in turn, will select the winners and will provide mentorship for the chosen individuals over the course of three months.
The Importance of the Scholarship Program
Little by little, Brazilian companies are paying more attention to diversity and inclusion. After all, racial inequality in the Brazilian job market is far from resolved, and action is needed.

According to the research Race & Labor Market: An Unresolved Equation, conducted in 2022 by Indique and Mindsight, 59% of over 2500 respondents stated they work in companies where Black individuals make up less than half of the workforce. Furthermore, 84.8% of respondents believe that racial diversity in companies contributes to better business results.
For Indique uma Preta co-founder Daniele Mattos, the action with EBAC represents a dual growth and development. “We have a community eager for development – which does not mean that these individuals lack the necessary qualifications to enter the job market. In fact, the overqualification of the community ends up being a tool to confront racism. So, having a Scholarship Program at a respected institution like EBAC provides resources for this highly engaged community. And I believe that EBAC, as an institution, will strengthen and has much to learn from the insights and exchanges that will be facilitated through this Program,” she states.
How the Free Course Scholarship Program Will Work
Requirements: The interested individual, in addition to self-declaring as Black, Brown, or Indigenous, must be over 18 years old, fill out the form, and answer questions that will serve as criteria for selecting the winners. This selection will be made by the Indique uma Preta team.
“Since we understand that EBAC has courses that can accommodate many people, we will not impose restrictions. We will open the selection to women, men, and also other gender intersectionalities. From this, we will look at some intersections, for example, if individuals are mothers, if they are persons with disabilities, if they are part of the LGBTQIAP+ community, or if they live in peripheral areas. Then, we will cross these sections to select a more diverse audience for the Scholarship Program,” explains Aretha Teodoro, communication analyst at Indique uma Preta.
Benefits: In addition to competing for scholarships, all registered participants in the Program will receive support material to assist in building their careers and also in choosing the EBAC course. According to Rebecca, the idea behind the support material is to serve as a guide for registrants. “We gathered information from EBAC’s Career Center about professional tips and constructions, and we will share it with everyone who registers for the Program,” she says.
Rebecca also mentions that the support material will include instructions for each selected individual to choose an EBAC course effectively. This is important because, as the institution offers more than 150 courses, it is essential for that choice to align with their professional goals.
Mentorship from Indique uma Preta
In addition to the EBAC course, the 50 individuals selected for the Free Course Scholarship Program will also receive free mentorship, which will start in January and continue until March, led by the Indique uma Preta team.
“The idea behind the mentorship is to monitor the selected individuals. We have some objectives, such as developing these individuals, helping them grow in their jobs, achieve promotions, or enter the job market. So, in the mentorship, we provide guidance and active listening to understand if the initial KPIs are being addressed and if there are other points to be mapped and developed,” explains Daniele.
The mentorship, specifically developed for the Program, will occur once a month, collectively and will also be a space for individuals to share their experiences, ask questions, and engage in networking.
