Three Germans Arrested for Stealing Military Technology Destined for Chinese Navy. Learn More About the Case!

The story we are about to tell may sound like it is taken from a spy novel, but it is absolutely real and fits perfectly into the current geopolitical and geostrategic context. Recently, three German citizens were detained in Düsseldorf and Bad Homburg, near Frankfurt, accused of stealing information related to advanced military technologies.

The information collected by ABC News confirms that at least one of the three detained works for the Ministry of State Security of China. However, German investigators suspect that the three have been linked to Chinese intelligence services since before June 2022. In any case, the most serious charge they are facing stems from the illegal export of a special laser.

Everything revolves around a military-grade laser coveted by the Chinese Navy. Two of the individuals detained by German intelligence are owners of a company in Düsseldorf that frequently collaborates with German scientists. This seems to have been the contact that allowed them to access confidential information of interest to Chinese intelligence services. These two suspects allegedly pretended to sign a research agreement with a German university, the first step of which required the development of a study intended for a Chinese collaborator.

What is suspicious is that the report that was supposedly to be delivered to this collaborator, led by Xi Jinping, contained information about various advanced technologies that could be used in military ship engines. Moreover, the project was funded by the Chinese state, according to German authorities, which ultimately led to the detention of the German citizens involved in this scheme.

However, that’s not all. At the time they were detained, the three suspects were negotiating to acquire more research projects that could be used to expand the combat capabilities of the Chinese Navy.

In fact, the aforementioned laser, which was exported illegally to China, could be used as a weapon on the Navy’s ships, according to German authorities. Nancy Faeser, the Interior Minister of the German government, stated that “these arrests represent a significant success for our intelligence service.”
