Highway Will Gain 13 Overpasses and Duplicate Concrete Lanes! The Project, Aiming to Reduce Congestion and Improve Safety, Includes New Marginal Roads, Bus Stops, and Bicycle Paths.
The road infrastructure in Paraná is about to receive a significant advancement with the duplication of PR-092, also known as the Mining Highway.
The project includes the construction of 13 overpasses, along with various structural improvements that promise to optimize urban mobility and ensure more safety for drivers and pedestrians.
The work is part of a set of investments aimed at modernizing the state road network.

The Department of Highways of Paraná (DER/PR), linked to the Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics (SEIL), detailed the plans in a public hearing held this Monday (24), at the department’s auditorium in Curitiba.
During the event, technicians from the institution explained the scope of the project and the importance of the work for the development of the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba (RMC).
Main Details of the Work
The duplication of PR-092 will cover a section of 8.3 kilometers, going from km 15+520 to km 23+820.
The central pavement will be replaced with rigid concrete with 25-centimeter thick slabs, ensuring greater durability and resistance to heavy traffic.
To complement the structure, marginal roads will be built along most of the route, using a semi-rigid pavement made up of a graded gravel base treated with cement and a flexible asphalt top layer.
The construction of 13 overpasses will be distributed across five strategic locations, meeting traffic needs and facilitating access to the marginal roads.
Ten of these structures will be grade-separated interchanges, allowing vehicles to cross the highway more safely without the need for traffic lights.
Another three overpasses will be built over the railway, eliminating at-grade crossings, one of the critical points of the current highway.
In addition to the lane duplication and the construction of the overpasses, significant improvements in the road geometry are planned, including the correction of dangerous curves to reduce the risk of accidents.
Sidewalks, bicycle paths, and bus stops will also be implemented, ensuring more safety for pedestrians and cyclists using the highway daily.
Bidding Process and Public Consultation
The preliminary project for the duplication of PR-092 was prepared by DER/PR, which is finalizing the necessary adjustments before publishing the notice.
The expectation is that the bidding process will be launched soon, allowing work to begin as soon as the bureaucratic procedures are completed.
To ensure transparency and community participation, interested individuals can access the recorded content of the public hearing and consult the detailed material on the DER/PR portal.
Additionally, questions and suggestions can be sent to the institution in the next five business days, during which observations will be analyzed and answered publicly.
History of Works on the Mining Highway
PR-092 has already undergone duplication processes in recent years. At the end of 2024, the first phase of the work was delivered, covering a stretch of 4.74 kilometers between Curitiba and Almirante Tamandaré.
This project involved an investment of R$ 165 million from the Government of Paraná.
Currently, a second section of the highway has been under construction since July 2024, including the duplication of 1,280 meters in the urban area of Almirante Tamandaré and the construction of an overpass at the junction with PR-509, known as the Limestone Highway.
The modernization of PR-092 is one of the state’s priority projects and is expected to bring significant benefits for mobility and the region’s economy, reducing travel time, improving traffic safety, and facilitating the transport of goods and passengers.
Future Perspectives
The expansion of the Mining Highway reinforces Paraná’s commitment to modernizing road infrastructure.
With the completion of the work, a positive impact is expected both on state logistics and the quality of life of RMC residents.
To follow the project’s progress, the population can access the official website of DER/PR, where updated information about the construction schedule, bidding stages, and estimated completion dates is available.
