President Lula and Jean Prates Attend the Ceremony for the Resumption of Investments at the Pernambuco Refinery, in Petrobras’ New PAC.
The Abreu e Lima Refinery (RNEST) has been an important point of job creation in the city of Ipojuca, Pernambuco. The investment in the RNEST Project is included in Petrobras’ 2024-28+ Strategic Plan and is part of the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) of the federal government. Currently in the contracting phase, the construction of the Pernambuco refinery’s Train 2 is scheduled for completion in 2028, when it will have the capacity to process 260 thousand barrels of oil per day. The works for Train 2 are expected to begin in the second half of 2024.
With the implementation of Train 2, Petrobras will help expand national refining capacity, enabling an increase in the production of derivatives such as gasoline, LPG, naphtha, but mainly low sulfur diesel (diesel S10), to meet market demands, reducing the need for imports. ‘Considering all the planned adaptation projects and the enhancement of the industrial park and the supply chain and logistics, Petrobras estimates a production increase of diesel by about 40% in the coming years,’ said Prates.
