An explosion occurred in a tank at the Abreu e Lima Refinery (RNEST), located in Ipojuca (PE), leaving four workers injured on the afternoon of this Thursday (25). The incident in the tank happened during maintenance activities at the unit, according to the website Petronotícias.

Videos shared on social media show the exact moment of the explosion in the refinery’s tank, followed by a large cloud of smoke. The impressive images highlight the seriousness of the incident in the tank, which scared the workers and the local population.

The four workers injured in the incident were promptly attended to and sent for medical evaluation. One of them has already been discharged, while the others remain under observation. Petrobras reported that the refinery continues to operate normally.

Cause Of The Incident In The Refinery Tank

In an official statement, Petrobras reported that the explosion in the refinery’s tank was caused by a spark followed by flames, which were quickly controlled by the refinery’s internal teams. The causes of the incident will still be investigated.

The Unique Federation of Oil Workers (FUP), Sindipetro PE/PB, and representatives of the CIPA (Internal Commission for Accident Prevention) stated that they will participate in the investigation committee to ascertain the causes of the accident. The goal is to clarify the facts and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The explosion at the Abreu e Lima Refinery raises concerns and raises questions about the safety of operations.
