The largest US oil company leads the exploration project in the Sergipe-Alagoas basin in northeastern Brazil, with a 50% stake. Enauta and Murphy Oil Corp also operate in the asset.
ExxonMobil, the largest oil company in the US, is drilling a new area offshore Brazil that could produce 1 billion barrels of oil and gas, said its partner Murphy Oil. The announcement was made this Wednesday (23/3) by Murphy Oil, one of Exxon's partners in the block, informs Reuters. Note: ExxonMobil's press office informed the CPG portal that does not make estimates regarding its production or projects.
If the exploration is successful, it would be Exxon's first oil discovery in Brazil as an operator.
This is the first exploratory well in nine blocks that the three companies maintain together in the Sergipe-Alagoas basin. “The Cutthroat area has a potential raw resource amounting to between 500 million and 1,05 billion barrels of oil equivalent,” he said.
According to Murphy Oil CEO Roger Jenkins in a presentation to investors, Exxon's drilling in the so-called Cutthroat reserve should be completed in the coming weeks.
