Brazilian Air Force Opens New Positions Without Competition With Salaries in Dollars. Know What Is Necessary to Participate in the Selection Process Filled With Vacancies at the FAB for Assistants.
On February 24, 2025, the Air Force Command published in the Official Federal Gazette two ordinances that regulate the hiring and define the allocation of Local Assistants to work in diplomatic representations and units of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) abroad. The new rules establish criteria for the selection process, which does not require a public competition and offers remuneration in dollars, along with benefits. The rules will come into effect on March 5, 2025. Understand how the selection works and what the requirements are to compete for these positions.
Know How Hiring Works for Positions at the FAB With Salaries in Dollars
According to the GABAER Ordinance No. 919/GC1, signed by Lieutenant-Brigadier of the Air Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, the heads of the representations will have the autonomy to hire local assistants and choose their salary in dollars per month. According to article 2 of the ordinance, the competence is delegated to the Heads of Representations to hire Local Assistants and assign the values of the monthly salary of the hired individuals.
The salary in dollars for the positions without competition in the FAB selection process will be established based on salaries practiced in the local labor market and must comply with the labor legislation of the country where the representation is headquartered. The employment contracts for the positions at the FAB will be individual, with an annual period, and may be renewed as per the Administration’s interest.

Payment of the salary can be made in U.S. dollars or in the local currency. According to the document, the ordinance establishes a time limit for the contracts of the assistants. Upon reaching 180 months of contract, continuous or not, the approved individual must have their contract renewal proposal for an additional period submitted for evaluation.
Requirements to Participate in the Selection Process for Positions Without Competition at the Brazilian Air Force
The positions at the FAB in the selection process with a salary in dollars are intended for professionals residing in countries where the Air Force Command representations are located. According to the Ordinance, candidates interested in the positions without competition must undergo a simplified selection that aims to assess proficiency in Portuguese and in the official or most commonly used foreign language in the country.
For the selection process for positions at the FAB without the need for public competition, the assistants will go through stages such as Evaluation of Curriculum Vitae, Presentation of professional references, and interviews to assess proficiency in Portuguese and the local language. According to the ordinance, ensuring transparency in the procedure, the selection for positions without public competition must be preceded by wide dissemination.
The ordinance of the Brazilian Air Force also provides for the situations in which the contract can be canceled or not renewed at the initiative of the Administration, such as unsatisfactory performance of the approved individual, lack of budgetary resources, non-compliance with regulations, just cause defined by local labor legislation, and termination of representation activities.
The termination of the contract for positions at the FAB with a salary in dollars must be communicated in writing to the Local Assistant with the advance notice required by local labor legislation.
Distribution of Positions Without Competition
The Ordinance, in turn, established the allocation of Local Assistants in the representations of the Air Force Command abroad. Among the highlights are:
Brazilian Aeronautics Commission – FAB In Europe (CABE) in London:
- 3 Support Assistants;
- 28 Administrative Assistants;
- 2 Assistants.
Brazilian Aeronautics Commission in Washington (CABW):
- 6 Support Assistants;
- 34 Administrative Assistants;
- 7 Assistants.
Aeronautical Adidancies in Various Other Countries:
- 1 Support Assistant;
- 1 Administrative Assistant.
The vacancies at the FAB are distributed in representations in South America (Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela), North America (Canada and the United States), Europe (France, Czech Republic, Italy, England, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, and Russia), and countries such as China, South Africa, India, Israel, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Senegal.
Where Should Interested Parties Submit Their Applications?
Currently, the Air Force Command does not provide a specific link for applications for Local Assistant positions in Brazilian representations abroad. According to GABAER Ordinance No. 919/GC1, published on February 24, 2025, the hiring of these professionals is the responsibility of the Heads of Representations abroad, who have the autonomy to conduct the selection processes and define the salaries.
