How Does the Selection Work?
IFRJ has published Public Notice 08/2025, which regulates the Student Selection Process for Undergraduate Courses 2025.1.
Enrollments are made exclusively online and use the scores from previous editions of the National High School Exam (ENEM).
Thus, candidates who have taken the exam between 2020 and 2024 can compete for the available spots without the need to take a new entrance exam.
Enrollments will be open from February 21 to March 9, 2025, and the entire process will be conducted through the official IFRJ platform. Classes are expected to begin in April 2025.
Available Courses and Spots
The Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro offers a total of 110 spots distributed among three engineering courses, divided among different campuses:
- Production Engineering (Bachelor’s) – Nilópolis Campus (Evening): 30 spots;
- Production Engineering (Bachelor’s) – Niterói Campus (Full-Time – Afternoon/Evening): 40 spots;
- Computer Engineering (Bachelor’s) – Niterói Campus (Full-Time – Afternoon/Evening): 40 spots.
The spots are divided between broad competition and affirmative actions, ensuring opportunities for different profiles of candidates, including students from public schools, quilombolas, self-declared black, brown, or indigenous individuals, as well as people with disabilities.
Who Can Enroll?
To compete for the spots, candidates must meet some criteria established in the public notice:
- Have taken the ENEM in one of the editions between 2020 and 2024;
- Have scored at least 400 points in at least one of the exam sections;
- Not have scored zero in any area of the ENEM;
- Select a single edition of the ENEM to use in the selection.
Additionally, candidates need to indicate whether they wish to compete for the broad competition spots or the affirmative action quotas.
How Does the Classification Work?
The classification will be determined by the Final Score (NF), which will be calculated based on the scores obtained in the ENEM, using specific weights for each course. In the case of Production Engineering – Nilópolis Campus, the formula is:
NF = [(P1 x 2) + (P2 x 1) + (P3 x 3) + (P4 x 5) + (R x 3)] ÷ 14
Where:
- P1: Languages, Codes and their Technologies;
- P2: Human Sciences and their Technologies;
- P3: Natural Sciences and their Technologies;
- P4: Mathematics and their Technologies;
- R: Writing.
Candidates will be ranked in decreasing order of score. In case of a tie, priority will be given to those with higher writing scores and, subsequently, the older candidate.
Selection Process Timeline
IFRJ has defined a detailed schedule for the selection process:
- Preliminary Approval of Enrollments and Preliminary List of Scores: March 13, 2025;
- Appeals Period: March 14 and 15, 2025;
- Final Approval and Final Classification: March 19, 2025;
