Global chip crisis affects major multinationals and the automotive industry may collapse due to lack of components. The Hyundai multinational goes against the grain and announces the resumption of production at its factory in São Paulo. Unfortunately, this is not the case for automaker Fiat, which suspended its vehicle production and granted a collective vacation of ten days to a thousand workers at the Betim factory in Minas Gerais last Monday (07/12). Volkswagen is also affected and keeps its activities temporarily suspended at its factory in São Paulo.

Hyundai Factory in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Resumes Production in One Shift

Hyundai in Piracicaba, São Paulo, resumed production in one shift after ten days completely stopped. On Monday, Hyundai will return to full production, with the anticipated return of the afternoon and night shifts, which was previously scheduled only for the 26th.

The third shift at the Korean multinational’s factory, where the HB20 and Creta models are assembled, has been suspended since May 31, while the afternoon shift (second shift) had production interrupted for almost a month.

Fiat and Volkswagen Suspend Production at the Factory in Minas Gerais and São Bernardo do Campo, See the Video Below

Since the beginning of the supply crisis, Fiat, one of the Stellantis brands and one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, has been alternating vacations for groups of workers. Since March, it is the fourth time that the automaker has had to suspend part of its production, with regular vacations of ten days due to irregular supply of parts.

In the first ten days of July, another thousand workers had already gone on vacation in Betim, where the Uno, Fiorino, Doblô, Grand Siena, Mobi, and Argo models are assembled, in addition to the Strada pickup truck, which has become the best-selling car in the country this year.

The automaker informed CNN that it is adjusting production to the pace of electronic component supply and remains in constant contact with suppliers to mitigate the effects of the global semiconductor shortage.

Also due to lack of electronic components, Volkswagen will suspend the first production shift at the São Bernardo do Campo factory, which assembles the Polo, Virtus, Nivus, and Saveiro models, starting Monday for 20 days. It is important to note that Volkswagen had already completely interrupted production of the Gol and Voyage in Taubaté, in the interior of São Paulo, on Monday, in a stoppage that will extend until the end of the month.
