Niobium Solutions Promising to Revolutionize the Agro Market in Brazil with Positive Results in Plantations and Low Environmental Impact
Niobium Revolutionizing the Brazilian Agro Market! Brazil’s agribusiness is one of the economic pillars of the country and one of its main concerns is to protect crops and seeds from diseases, which can lead to productivity losses ranging from 10 to 20%, reaching up to 100% of production in some cases when there is inadequate management. To control crop diseases, technological solutions are increasingly being implemented by national agriculture.

The mining startup Nanonib® has invested in studies for the sector and developed the NanonibAgro® platform, a business division of the group that will produce the first set of technological solutions based on Niobium in the world for the agro market: the Nb41-B®, PNb-53®, and NbS-12®, already patented, are just a few of the many Niobium materials being studied by the company. “Our goal is to develop technologies for agribusiness with a high impact, especially for precision tropical agriculture. The technologies created result from over 15 years of knowhow in research and leveraging the mineral characteristics of niobium and its availability in the state of Minas Gerais,” reveals Nanonib® director Joel Passos.
NbS-12® is the First Advanced Hybrid Niobium Material and Will Enable the Agro Market to Protect Seeds
Our niobium compounds – informs Nanonib® partner and full professor in the Chemistry Department at UFMG, Luiz Carlos Oliveira – were developed with nanotechnology and are capable of eliminating fungi in plants (soybeans, corn, wheat, citrus, among others) and in seed preservation. “We have already conducted several tests in greenhouse plantations and preliminary field tests with excellent results. It is also important to highlight that they are fungicides with very low environmental impacts and on human health,” adds the professor. Furthermore, in vitro toxicological studies have been carried out, and results demonstrated that the innovative molecules created by Nanonib® show high biosafety. Clinical studies in accredited laboratories also showed that the compounds do not cause irritation, photoirritation, or toxicity upon contact with people.

The NbS-12® is the first advanced hybrid niobium material and will allow the agro market to protect seeds for planting the next crops for various cultures, such as corn, wheat, peanuts, among others, bringing more safety to producers and innovation to the field. PNb-53® has fungicidal action similar to Nb41-B® and also allows for the delivery of macro and micronutrients associated for better recovery of the developing crop. Additionally, the Nb41-B® molecule is versatile and has its action intensified under solar radiation.

Nb41-B® Combats Asian Rust, Responsible for Over R$ 150 Billion in Losses in Soybean Cultivation in Brazil in Recent Years
The result of the Nb41-B® compound’s activity has raised the company’s expectations, as the material showed effective fungicidal activity. This national nanotechnology, of a disruptive nature, can contribute to the fight against Asian rust, a major cause of losses in food production, especially in soybean cultivation. The disease is responsible for over R$ 150 billion in losses in soybean cultivation in Brazil in recent years.
Nanonib® is part of the Agritech group, technology startups for agribusiness. In Brazil, there are already around 300 companies in the sector with annual investments of over R$ 100 million and using a series of techniques to increase production and agricultural efficiency. Investment in technology and innovation in agribusiness has been growing and sought after by producers as a fundamental tool for increasing the segment’s competitiveness in the global market.
The startup Nanonib® was founded in 2019 in partnership with a group of private investors and incorporates the success of scientific and technological studies of the various applications of niobium nanomaterials by the partner researchers and professors of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). The company has a R&D unit and advanced Niobium materials production plant at the Technology Park of Belo Horizonte – BHTEC.
