Fiat Mobi, The Cheapest Car In Brazil, Is The Last To Use The Fire Engine, Which Will Be Retired And Promises To Leave Nostalgia After Two Decades In The Brazilian Market
Soon, the Fire engine, which is the oldest Otto cycle engine in operation in Brazil, will be retired. Next, we explain the reason for this decision. Recently, Fiat announced the end of production for the Fire engine, which was introduced in the brand’s vehicles in 1985 and arrived in Brazil in the early 2000s, equipping models such as the Palio hatchback, the Siena sedan, and the Weekend station wagon.
This beloved engine, the successor to the Fiasa that equipped the Fiat 147 and, after some modifications, the Uno Mille, is the oldest Otto cycle engine still in production in Brazil. So, why did the Italian automaker, which belongs to the Stellantis Group, decide to end its production? Canaltech will clarify this issue.

Fiat Mobi, The Cheapest Car In Brazil, Is The Last To Use The Fire Engine
While it is not yet discontinued, the Fire engine continues to make its presence known in one of the most affordable and best-selling models in Brazil in the hatchback segment.
This engine is present in the Fiat Mobi Like, which offers the driver between 71 hp and 74 hp of power (gasoline and ethanol), in addition to torque varying between 9.3 and 9.7 kgf/m, depending on the fuel used. With the end of the Fire engine, the Mobi will adopt the 1.0 Firefly 3-cylinder engine.
The Executor Of The Fire Has A Name
The main reason for the end of production of the Fire engine is Proconve L8 (Program for the Control of Air Pollution by Motor Vehicles). This regulatory program for pollutant emissions will come into effect from 2025.
Just as happened with the arrival of Proconve L7 in 2022, many automakers had to adapt their production lines and announce the end of some models that would not meet the new requirements, unless they invested large sums.
For the beloved Fire to comply with the new rules, Fiat would have to make several adaptations, which would not be financially viable. Therefore, the oldest engine in Brazil is about to say goodbye.
