After Almost 40 Years of Fiat Uno, Its Farewell from the Brazilian Automotive Industry May Be Closer Than Expected. Although Fiat Claims Production Is Normalized, Dealers Report Scarcity of the Model at Dealerships
It is no surprise that this automotive veteran is heading toward its final days in the country. However, the farewell may come sooner than expected. This is because the Fiat Uno has disappeared from the brand’s stores, and there is no timeline for a new batch to arrive in stock. Decreasing sales, an old engine, lack of safety equipment, and a successor that is already one of the sales leaders (the Mobi) are likely to result in the last units of the Uno being sold by the end of this year at the latest. According to some dealerships, there are few Fiat Uno units available.

Fiat States That Production of the Model Remains Normalized
Some automotive dealers claim that they will not receive a new batch of the Fiat Uno due to its imminent retirement. Others inform that new batches will be delivered only to fleet customers.
However, Fiat, in turn, denies that production of the model has ended, stating that the current manufacturing of the line-up of the brand remains normalized. Even though the automaker declares that there has been no change in the production line, some transitions in Fiat’s lineup suggest that the 37-year journey of the Fiat Uno is coming to an end in the automotive industry.

This year, the 2022 model has been sold in the single Attractive version, meaning the automaker has ceased sales of the Way and Drive variants. Consumers are left with the option that features a not-so-powerful engine, the four-cylinder 1.0 8V Firefly with 75 hp, priced at R$ 63,490. A price that is average compared to its compact sibling, the Argo, which currently costs R$ 66,890. However, in relation to the Mobi, which prices range from R$ 47,990 to R$ 59,990, the Uno’s price is already a bit above the market.
Fiat Mobi, the Possible Successor to the Fiat Uno in the Brazilian Automotive Industry
Speaking of Fiat’s entry-level car, the Mobi will be responsible for succeeding the Fiat Uno in the Brazilian automotive industry. The compact, which was designed to be a new famous “popular car”, has already surpassed sales of the Fiat veteran.
Currently, the Mobi is the third best-selling car of the year, with 54,949 units sold. Its predecessor, on the other hand, sold only 18,637 cars in the same time frame, of which 97% were sold via direct sales.
Although it is not a small number, the sales volume is still higher than that of the Volkswagen Polo (16,579) and the Fiat Cronos (14,690), for example. The veteran was once one of the best-selling cars in the country, reaching over 140,000 units sold per year.
Learn More About the History of the Uno in Brazil
In the Brazilian automotive industry, the history of the Uno began in 1984, but in reality, the charming Fiat compact had its journey starting in the late 1970s.
In Brazil, the model had its project modified compared to the original European car because Brazilian infrastructure required a more robust suspension and a higher ground clearance.
