Mysterious Metal Cylinder Found in Campo Rossi Mobilizes Police, Firefighters, and Air Force Due to Risk of Highly Dangerous Toxic Fuel
On the afternoon of last Thursday (25), the routine in Campo Rossi, in Puerto Tirol, Chaco, was interrupted by an unusual scene. A metal cylinder appeared partially buried in the land of a private property, drawing the attention of neighbors and local authorities due to the strangeness of the object.
The owner, Ramón Ricardo González, authorized the police to enter and check the artifact. Officers from the Puerto Tirol Delegation confirmed the presence of the object and began a detailed inspection.
Soon after, the Metropolitan Fire Department arrived at the scene to assess the risk of explosion. The area was immediately cordoned off.

Amateur archaeologists were searching a forest in Poland with metal detectors when they found a ceramic pot buried for over 1,500 years. Inside was a pure gold necklace weighing 222 grams, folded to fit in the vessel, and when experts examined the piece, they discovered it was the first Gothic torque ever found in Polish territory.

Argentina patrols the South Atlantic with ships built in France and monitors over 1.1 million km² with 87 m OPVs, a range of 7,500 miles, 360° radar, and a 30 mm cannon against illegal fishing in the 200-mile zone.
First Hypotheses About the Origin
The news spread quickly among the residents. Many believed it to be a piece of a rocket from SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk.
However, the official version came the next day. According to information from the Chaco Police, the object was not a simple piece of metal, but rather a fuel tank capsule from a rocket.
The revelation was disclosed on the morning of this Friday (26) by Diario Chaco.
Structure and Risks of the Artifact
According to authorities, the cylinder is made of carbon fiber and poses immediate danger if handled. This is because it can release toxic dust when touched.
This type of tank typically stores hydrazine, a highly harmful fuel to health. Therefore, the guidance was clear: no one should approach or attempt to touch similar objects found on the ground.
In addition, nearby residents were warned to keep their distance until the case was completely resolved.
Action by the Air Force
To ensure safe removal, a specialized team from the Air Force was dispatched to the province this Friday. The goal is to remove the cylinder without exposing the population to unnecessary risks.
This information was confirmed by the portal La Nacion, which highlighted the operation as a preventive measure in light of the potential danger.
Global Risk of Space Debris
Although this is an isolated case in northern Argentina, scientists point out that the fall of space fragments may become more frequent.
The accumulation of waste in orbit is a growing concern because it hinders space exploration. In extreme scenarios, experts warn that even access to space could be jeopardized.
The Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in the United States is already working on solutions. The institution has developed technology capable of detecting impacts from micrometeoroids and debris on satellites.
Sidney Chocron, a scientist at SwRI, explained: “Most spacecraft survive small collisions without operators noticing. Our system anticipates signals before the damage becomes severe.”
History of the Region with Space Phenomena
The current episode is reminiscent of a curious past of Chaco itself. The province is known for the archaeological site Campo del Cielo, located near the border with Santiago del Estero.
There, a rain of metallic meteorites occurred about 4,000 years ago, leaving large iron fragments scattered throughout the region.
Some of the largest masses ever recorded on the planet have been found in this location.
In 2016, researchers discovered a meteorite weighing over 30 tons in Campo del Cielo. Mario Vesconi, president of the Chaco Astronomical Association, stated at the time: “Even knowing what we were looking for, the size and mass surprised us.”
