A Used Porsche Cayenne For Less Than R$ 100 Thousand? Discover Everything About The Iconic Luxury SUV From Porsche That Has Been Winning Hearts And Dominating The Market For More Than Two Decades.

The desired Porsche Cayenne is at the top of many drivers’ dream lists, but what few people know is that this luxury SUV can be purchased for a fraction of the price of a brand-new model. For less than R$ 100 thousand, it is possible to find a first-generation used Porsche Cayenne equipped with the 3.6 engine from the 2008 model. But is it still worth investing in this classic in 2024? Let’s analyze the pros and cons for you to decide if this Porsche icon is still a good deal in the current market.

History Of The Porsche Cayenne SUV In The Automotive Market

In the 1990s, Porsche had to make far-reaching decisions to ensure long-term success. At the beginning of the decade, the company was experiencing one of the biggest economic crises in its history. Since it was a new market, the company sought a partner to develop its third product.

Porsche developed the car platform and architecture, and in August 2002, the first units of the luxury SUV rolled out of a factory built exclusively for it in Leipzig, while the Touareg was being produced at the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Two versions were offered, and in the S, the newly developed 4.5 V8 engine delivered 340 horsepower, while in the Turbo, the output jumped to an impressive 450 horsepower. Shortly thereafter, a Turbo S option with 521 horsepower would complete the range. At least in terms of power, enthusiasts couldn’t complain about the Cayenne.

For Porsche, the Cayenne created the economic foundation for sustainable success without compromising the values of the brand’s sports car racing heritage. According to Oliver Blume, chairman of the executive board of Porsche AG, the Porsche Cayenne SUV successfully transferred the brand’s legend to a completely new market segment.

Is It Worth Buying A Used Porsche Cayenne SUV?

The first-generation luxury SUV delivers 290 hp, but its performance is just satisfactory for a Porsche, going from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 227 km/h.

With a little more money, performance gets much better in the Cayenne S powered by the 4.8-liter V8 Porsche engine. Although less reliable, this engine takes the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and to 250 km/h top speed thanks to its 385 hp and 50.9 kgfm.

The Cayenne Turbo can be found starting at R$ 90 thousand, the 4.8-liter V8 receives twin turbochargers to generate 500 horsepower and 71.3 kgfm, allowing the used Porsche Cayenne SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

The top speed is an impressive 275 km/h. Without the turbo, the 4.8-liter V8 delivers 405 hp and makes it slightly quicker than the Cayenne S, which goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 251 km/h.

What To Notice When Buying A Used Porsche Cayenne?

The luxury SUV’s air suspension can suffer from compressor filter saturation over time, allowing moisture ingress. This is typically solved with a compressor repair kit and the replacement of the respective filter.

The transmission may produce noise or vibrations during acceleration, which may indicate that the central bearing of the driveshaft has reached the end of its lifespan.

The repair cost exceeds R$ 20 thousand, as the bearing is not sold separately. On the V8 4.5, leaks arise due to the plastic hoses that Porsche replaced with aluminum pipes. This costs around R$ 3,500.
