During the occasion, the governor of SE, Belivaldo Chagas, announced that the State Gas Distributor (Sergas) should be privatized. The bill will be sent to the Legislative Assembly of Sergipe (Alese) on the basis of the company's need for expansion, since in 25 years of operation only seven municipalities receive piped gas.

Also at the ceremony, Chagas signed the decree to reduce the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS), levied on CNG (Natural Gas Vehicle) from 18% to 12%. The measure will effectively take effect from March 2020 in an attempt to stimulate an increase in CNG consumption in Sergipe, in addition to contributing to the reduction of pollutants.
The expectations are that in the next decade Brazil will have an expressive supply of natural gas, when evaluating the fact that Sergipe already has the first private LNG terminal in the country, part of the Porto de Sergipe Thermoelectric Complex, presenting a regasification capacity of 21 million m³ and nominal storage capacity of 170 thousand m³ of liquefied natural gas.
