During the occasion, the governor of SE, Belivaldo Chagas, announced that the State Gas Distributor (Sergas) is to be privatized. Also at the ceremony, Chagas signed the decree to reduce the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) from 18% to 12%. This measure will take effect from March 2020 in an attempt to stimulate the increase of CNG consumption in Sergipe, in addition to contributing to pollutant reduction.
Expectations are that in the next decade, Brazil will have a significant supply of natural gas, considering that Sergipe already has the country’s first private LNG terminal today, part of the Sergipe Power Plant Complex, with a regasification capacity of 21 million m³ and a nominal storage capacity of 170 thousand m³ of liquefied natural gas.
