The City of Nova Trento, Heading Westward, Displays Gasoline Values at R$ 5.4 in the State of Santa Catarina (SC).
Heading westward in the state of Santa Catarina (SC), gasoline is being quoted at R$ 5.4, one of the lowest prices in the last few months, the price found was at a gas station heading from Brusque to Claraíba, a neighborhood in Nova Trento. According to residents in the area, many people come from neighboring towns to fill their car’s tank, as the price difference from one gas station to another can exceed R$ 0.5 after Petrobras’s adjustments.
Prices are experiencing significant drops this month of July, as Petrobras announced new reductions on the price per liter that could deeply impact consumers’ wallets. Despite gasoline being lower, at R$ 5.4 in the west and R$ 5.9 on the coast, diesel continues to flirt with R$ 8 in all locations. The ethanol, however, shows negative variations.

For now, Laguna, also a coastal city, has one of the lowest prices in the east, reaching about R$ 5.45. Joinville, a city located in northern Santa Catarina (SC), has also tested falling prices, obtaining an average sale price of R$ 5.50.

Petrobras Approves Guideline That Will Implement Its Pricing Policy Strongly
During the last Wednesday, July 27, Petrobras approved a guideline that will implement its pricing policy approved by the Temer government in 2016 even more strongly. Now, the state-owned company will adopt stricter measures to analyze fuel variations on a national scale over a quarter to improve cash profit returns. Just in the last quarter, according to the institution, they would have recorded a profit of over R$50 billion.
The rise in oil, which was intensified after the war between Russia and Ukraine, led to profit increases to R$ 50 billion in the last quarter considering market instability. Jair Bolsonaro, the President of the Republic, states, however, that he cannot control the price variations of the state-owned company and that it is up to them to “raise awareness among the Brazilian people.”
With Dropping Fuels, Mainly Gasoline, Preliminary Inflation for July Ends Negative
Although the IPCA indexes have not been officially released by IBGE for the month of July, preliminary inflation ended negatively, according to Infomoney. The decrease in the IPCA would have occurred after states reduced the ICMS charges on gasoline and ethanol and also due to Petrobras’s price controls, which directly affected the value of products.
The decrease was 0.13%. However, analysts say this number shouldn’t be positive in the long term and indicate that there has been deflation. The transport and logistics sector is one of those suffering the most from fuel price variations, as there is a 10% margin that they are losing to avoid passing the IPCA variations on to end consumers.
As a way to reverse the crisis, Jair Bolsonaro’s government approved a project that will allow for payments of R$ 1,000 per month to independent truck drivers.
